This is an original painting by an unknown artist. In acrylic paint. I believe. This painting was part of the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio. Texas, the oldest sanctuary in the United States of America. It was showcased in"La Virgin De Guadalupe" which was televised nationally on Univision by the Cathedral for several years. It measures 6 feet wide by 8 feet on a thick canvas. I don't know its exact age but it is definitely at least 25 years and probably more. It has been safely stored at the Cathedral for years. This is a VERY RARE collector clear glass bottle shaped like the VIRGIN MARY OF GUADALUPE that. At one time, contained ROMPOPE SOR ALEGRIA. Made in Mexico City. ROMPOPE is a typical Mexican eggnog drink with a strong"spike" of rum. Very popular during the Christmas Season. This liquor is still made in Mexico by several different companies but NONE use the fancy bottle that this SOR ALEGRIA used. This company was established in the early 1950's and has since closed down so these beautiful bottles are now very hard to find. This glass bottle is shaped like the Virgin Mary of Guadalupe(the Basilica in her honor is located in the outskirts of Mexico City) She is holding her hands together in prayer and has a long rosary hanging from her right side. Handmade, painted and decorated wooden nicho/ex voto/milagro heart on tin, with three milagro charms and an image of the Virgen of Guadalupe which is printed on a piece of celluloid(an early form of plastic) The wooden heart is hand painted in a thin yellow wash of paint, and then decorated with small, colorful dots. The tin backing has a petal-like edge and a hanging loop on reverse. There are three pressed-metal milagros on this piece, which are hammered in place with iron nails(these nails have rusted) The milagros are- a kneeling Madonna or Saint, a chili pepper rista(a tied garland for drying peppers) and a bird in flight, known as an Espiritu Santo, or Holy Spirit. Condition- Very Good with patina of age: obvious ... moreage and light surface rust to tin backing. And to the nails that hold the milagros in place. There is some curl to the corners of the celluloid piece with the image of the Virgen of Guadalupe and the gold or brass finish on the metal milagros has faded and worn. Old label mark on reverse side. Wooden heart center is perhaps, mounted slightly off center on the tin backing, in the nature of a handmade object. Clean, odor-free and from a non-smoking home. Vintage Tin Aluminum Religious Our Lady of Guadalupe Picture Wall Hanging
This is such a gorgeous piece! The main part of the wall hanging is made of tin and features a 3 dimensional image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The metal part is set on a linen/canvas type material and the whole thing is mounted in a wood frame. There are a few areas where the glue peeks around the tin where it is set in the fabric. But I think this gives it a little bit more of a rustic/unique feel. The wood frame also has some nicks and streak of turquoise paint on the bottom left side. This will probably come off or it can be painted over.
