NOTE: Resizing is available(may incur nominal extra cost depending on size required) DESCRIPTION: Early in Rome’s history silver(and gold) came from Spain via the Phoenicians and their colony of Carthage. Partly motivated by a desire to control that trade. Rome engaged Carthage in three wars(the“Punic Wars” In fact father of the great Carthaginian General Hannibal was not only himself one of Carthage’s most famous generals, he was also a precious metals merchant. The Romans virtually deforested the entire country of Spain making charcoal to smelt silver and gold. When the silver in Spain began to play out, in 55BC Rome’s Julius Caesar invaded Britain, in part to acquire the rich silver deposits there. The Romans were the first to mass-produce coinage on a monumental scale, the first truly monetized society. Between 100 and 400AD the Romans produced billions of silver and bronze coins. At the height of the Empire. There were over 400 mints producing coinage throughout the empire. Silver was also fashioned into Greek-style jewelry. The chief centers of production were Alexandria, Antioch, and Rome, to which Greek craftsmen had migrated. Celebrating that heritage, here’s a gorgeous, high quality sterling silver semi-custom sterling silver ring. The ring is robustly constructed, much more substantial and heavier than the typical ring band. Please do not confuse this with cheap silver electroplate. This is a high-quality ring manufactured right here in the USA by one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of gold and sterling silver semi-custom mounts. NOTE: Resizing is available(may incur nominal extra cost depending on size required) DESCRIPTION: The oldest silver artifacts found by archaeologists date from ancient Sumeria about 4.000 B.C. At many points in the ancient world, silver was actually more costly than gold, particularly in ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptians believed that the skin of their gods was composed of gold, and their bones were thought to be of silver. The first large-scale silver mines were in Anatolia(ancient Turkey) and Armenia, where as early as 4,000 B.C. silver was extracted from lead ores. From Turkey and Armenia silver refining technology spread to the rest of Asia Minor and Europe. By about 2,500 B.C. the Babylonians were one of the major refiners of silver. The high value ancient cultures place on silver is demonstrated by the fact that some of the richest burials in history uncovered by archaeologists have been from this time frame; that of Queen Puabi of Ur, Sumeria(26th century B.C. Not flawless, but certainly in a better than average state of preservation– and unrepaired! Stands on its own. DETAIL: A nicely preserved clay statuette so wonderfully characteristic of Sui-Tang Dynasty statuary. The statuette depicts a man performing a martial arts move. Something akin to contemporary“mushu” The roots of mushu martial arts extends back at least 4,000 years, and this statuette reflects that heritage. Once painted, it appears that the body was perhaps painted all white or principally white, as it seems that there remains some residual paint beneath the soil deposition layer. However most of the paint this statuette originally possessed has oxidized/decomposed. It does stand on its own, but precariously, you would want to give it some support or something to lean on, as otherwise it does topple easily. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties. TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Genuine Sterling Silver Semi-Custom ... moreDesigner Ring. Size 6 1/2(resizing available) Not cheap silver electroplate! This is a high-quality. Solid sterling silver designer ring manufactured by one of America’s leading semi-custom mount manufacturers. The high value ancient colutures place on silver is demonstrated by the fact that some of the richest burials in history uncovered by archaeologists have been from this time frame; that of Queen Puabi of Ur, Sumeria(26th century B.C. Tutankhamun(14th century B.C. and the rich Trojan(25th century B.C. and Mycenaean(18th century B.C. treasures uncovered by Heinrich Schliemann. Celebrating that heritage. Here’s a gorgeous, high quality sterling silver semi-custom sterling silver ring. It’s an heirloom quality ring designed and produced to last a lifetime…and beyond! HISTORY OF SILVER: After gold
