Vintage PRINTERS Block Type Set Letter Print Wooden DRAWER TRAY Shadowbox (2)
This is a vintage wooden type set printer press tray. Great for shadowboxes. Shelves, etc. It measures 32 1/2" long, 16 1/2" wide, with a 1 1/2" depth. There are 89 various sized sections, and the original metal handle with label, and wooden back. In need of a gentle cleaning, with a few marks/nicks/etc. here and there. WoodenVintage Printers Drawers Compartments Type Set Tray Shadow Box. I am not very familiar with these items. I can see no identifiying marks to tell me who exactly made them or how old they are. I got them from an estate auction. It measures approximately just under 32 1/4" long and a little over 16.5" wide compartments are 3/4" deep and tray itself measures about 1 3/4 inches deep. These appear to have age. The board on the bottom does appear to be a kind of plyboard. It has water damage one one end and some cracking. This probably needs the most work. There is writing of letters on the inner compartments. I think in ink. Does have a steel handle. Looks like the fron t has black paint and some specks of paint on some of the compartments. OLD PRINTER'S TYPE TRAY VINTAGE EARLY 1900'S Approximate ly 17 X 32 Inches Tray is about 1 3/8 Inches Thick and each Compartment is a little over 1 Inch Deep This drawer is from and old time printing shop and is in very good condition. I do not know the actual age. But it appears to be from long ago. It is constructed entirely of wood. And the bottom panel appears to be the original bottom. I have cleaned the tray to remove most of the dirt from over the years to reveal its original appearance. The Wood has some Very Nice Grain to it and an Antique Look to entire Box. A neat old printers drawer tray! This piece has more than 86 cubbies to hold all your typeset blocks or shadow box goodies. The tray is about 22" by 20" and has two holes that were used to attach to the wall. The tray has 4 metal hooks on one end. The drawer handle is made of metal and has a nice ornate design. The back of the tray has two metal plates for hanging with the handle at the bottom. In good used condition with patina. Some signs of age and use. A great piece to display your small collectibles.

These type cases have been in active use for around 50 years keeping the individual metal letters in order that are used in traditional letterpress printing and have stood the test of time well. They are in excellent original condition and have no damage. All of the dividers are in good order and have beautiful brass clips across the divider intersections that would polish up to a shine if desired. The wood has a rich natural patina and has been well cared for. You may want to give the compartments a dust/wipe out as the have been stood for sometime unused. There is minor wear to the wood in some places and some light pen marks where the compositor has marked a compartment with a letter but nothing above and beyond what you can see on ... morethe images. They are a fine example of printing heritage. All of them are of the same condition and display the Stephenson Blake and Co imprint who produced these type cases sometime c.1950 for some great ideas and inspiration for what these wonderful object can be used for Please view all images to get an idea of layout and condition. Thank you for having a look at this vintage/antique Hamilton printer typeset drawer. Very nice piece for your miniature collections. It measures 32"L x 16.5"H x 1.5" D. The openings are approx 1.25" deep There are 89 openings for display items. As shown in the photos there are 2 chips. 1 is on one of the openings the other is on the frame. These can be smoothed out but I left this up to the winning bidder if they choose to do so. The frame and all openings are tight. The backing is original. The handle is attached tightly. Up for bid is a vintage printers-type-set drawer. Or at least that is what it appears to be. It is in very good vintage condition and measures 11" x 11" x 1/2" high. The frame and slots are wooden and the back is cardboard. I'm sure it was homemade. Each little slot measures approximately 1/4" There are printed numbers down the sides and in a cross-like fashion in the middle. The frame is a bit rough and has a 3-1/2" gouge on the upper right corner. Comes with a box of over 100 wood letters representing every letter of the alphabet and fit easily into the frame slots. This tray is in excellent, vintage condition. There is no damage, it is solid, and all nails are in tact. It needs a good dusting, but other than that, it's a beautiful piece. It is stamped with"Hamilton Manufacturing Co. Two Rivers. Wis" and has a hook on the back for hanging/display. Trays like this were used to hold typesetting metal letters by newspaper companies in the early 1900's. This would make a wonderful shadowbox or shelf for your collectibles ... moreor a nice compliment to your decor. A very. Very cool piece.
