Antique/Primitive 2 Handle Wood Glass Serving Tray, Prim Decor, Needs Repair
Very old wood tray with a glass top. This came from an old estate auction and when I got it home I found the glass was taped to the back. I removed all of the tape to clean this item as it was very dirty- had been stored in an out building for who knows how long. The wooden frame has metal handles and each corner has metal leaf look inserts. The top of the frame looks like it has an antique gold applied to the varnish. I have no idea how the glass was painted- there is a dark design in the center and the rest looks like it has been varnished. Parts of the varnish on the glass have been scraped off. Antique Art Deco Rare Wood Serving Tray Inlaid Bone Mahogany Geometrical Design
This is a unknown maker. But it has an old piece of tape on the back that says"Charpl" The legs have stamps on them that look they were off of another piece of wood. I am guessing this is a handmade one of a kind piece that somebody used old pieces of wood and bone to make. The side risers are hollowed out bone and are filled with other types of wood. The side rails are a rough type wood and one of the has a crack but I think somebody could repair it if not they could just glue and make the piece work. The tray does have an uneven surface due to the age of the piece, I am guessing it to be from the early 1930's. It is all cut piece of different pieces and types of wood& bone cut to size then inlaid on a large flat piece of wood. Then they trimmed it with another type of wood. Some of the trim is loose and will need to fixed. ... moreIt is on the primitive style but very unique and rare. It is truly a work of art. It measures 20 1/4" long by 12 1/4" wide the rails are 1 1/2' off the tray the side bone post are each really close to the same size and the biggest is 2" across the smallest is 1 7/8' across all of them stand 1 3/4" tall, the legs are one solid piece with a c cut out for style they are 11 5/8" long by 1 3/8" tall. The tray stands off a table 3 5/8" to the top of the bone side post. This is a beautiful tray and will look great at a country or art Deco inspired bar or home. There are some splits in the backing fabric due to age but all the actual embroidery is in very good condition. The outer corners of the wood sections of the tray show the most wear. This superb wooden oval Gallery Serving Tray is wonderful to look at ~ those four little butterfly joints on beautifully aged(patina) wood. Old oval-shaped wooden trays were very often carried by Butlers. Serving cocktails or tea to guests) The 1-1/4" tall wooden gallery was bent by hand, and is joined by a wee wood peg on either side(I will try to include photo) Tray measures approx. 17-1/2" X 13-3/4" x a tad under 1-1/2" deep(measuring wood gallery to base) The mellow color of the wood is magnificent ~ filled with the nicks and scars of time. The"Butterfly Joints" Hinges) reverberate the signature style of Nakashima(which is why this tray would fit beautifully into a Victorian Home as well as a Modern 1960s Home! The only flaws that I could find are a little air space where gallery was joined to the base, and ... morea small crack on one side of the gallery(visible, but not easy to find(see last Photos) Overall, condition is not perfect, but is excellent for a tray of this age. I will be listing a variety of nice Antique and Vintage Items this week. Here is a Lovely ANTIQUE 19thC INLAID OVAL MAHOGANY SERVING TRAY WITH LARGE FAN INLAY IN CENTER AND VERTICAL-STRIPED GALLERY. Tray is 23" long(not including handles) and 15-3/8" wide. I've been told this is a probably a Centennial-Era tray and not a Federal Period tray as I listed it the first time. So I am relisting the tray with that revision. Lovely scroll-shaped brass handles which have circular nuts on the underside. Nice mellow vintage patina to surfaces. There is a crack-split line on tray going a little more than halfway from from one end to the middle. A couple of missing pieces of the banded veneer on the interior side of the gallery. Gallery looks warped a bit upward in one area with crack line at middle of this area with a bit of glue showing ... morearound this crack line. Four newer cork feet have been applied to the bottom. Vintage/Antique Wood Inlaid Serving Tray- 16" x 8" I know I have seen a similar style of wood work before. But just can't remember the name of the maker. If you know, please send me a note! This tray is made from wood. The pattern on the main surface is made of 4 pieces of thin veneer cut from the same block of wood pieces. These pieces of veneer are then laid down to make a double mirrored pattern. The labels are damaged. You can see them in the photos to see if you can tell what they originally said. The measurements are approximate and include the handles that stick out further than the tray. The whole tray is approx. 75" thick. As for condition, it appears to be very nice. Antique Wood Wooden Serving Tray w/ Ornate Floral Metal Inlay
For auction a beautiful antique serving tray with a floral patter metal inlay. I'm going to guess that this piece datesback to the 1930s. Inlay became a trend in the 1930s. Inlay is labor intensive. But labor was cheap back then. The tray measures 19" across and 9 1/4" at its widest. The wood is a beautiful. Almost exotic burled wood, but I dont know wood well enough to say for sure. On close inspection you can see that the piece was made from 2 pieces of wood glued together plus an edging to tie it all together. Because of the age of the piece and the stress on the wood from years and years of changing weather, the seam reveals in a handful of places itself on one side of the tray(as seen in my pictures) but not on the other side. I've taken a number of pictures of the seam so that you can see what is happening. The wood ... morewill forever expand and shrink, but I this piece will hold together well past out lifetimes. The inlay has a post arts and crafts feel about it. The size of this piece makes it ideal to sit on an end table with a small collection of glassware or figurines. This great piece I believe is circa 1940's. it is an estate piece that measures approx. 13" wide x 20.5" long(handle to handle) and 2" deep. It has a pie crust type edge and a glass insert. the glass has some scratches on it and the underside of the tray has a few veneer issues as well. I have tried to show all of this in the pics included. None of the mars effect the function of the piece in my opinion. There are also two of the(push pin type) feet missing on the bottom. Antique Framed Wood Tea Serving Tray Hand Tole Paint Rose Victorian Woven Wicker
Pretty hand painted tea serving tray with basket woven wicker sides. Features sprays of roses and tulips. The painted board nests into the tray and has a piece of glass that nests on top. I photographed this without the glass because of the glare. Vintage hanging hardware is affixed to the reverse. So it can be hung as art. If you do this, you must secure the glass and board to the tray or it will fall out. This beautiful tray dates from the early 1900's. It measures approx. 16" x 11" with the sides 2" deep. There are some old water stain marks on the back of the tray that do not affect the appearance of the tray on the display side.

Real antique buffet serving tray with a plaster with wood grain paint edge. 12 and 5/8 inches tall and 16 and 1/2 inches wide. Glass top over wood base and flower decor under glass. Wood and metal handles on sides. Felt base. This is well used but a beautiful piece of antique history. This has not been cleaned. Can be used as is or restored. Plaster on edges has some wear and pits. Glass does need cleaned. Beautiful wood base with floral decal on it. ANTIQUE WOOD TRAY– NO RESERVE Acquired at an estate sale is this antique wood serving tray. From my research the wood is mahogany. The tray has an inlay wood urn in the center with a glass top and brass handles. Stamped on the bottom“25170” and“25 x 15” Actual measurements are as follows: bottom 24 ¾ inches by 14 ¾ inches. 2 ½ inches tall at the brass handles. 1 ½ inches tall from the bottom the top of the wood sides. 1 inch tall from the glass to the top side edge. Glass surface is 22 inches by 12 ¼ inches. Brass handles are 3 inches long. There are six small straight slotted screws that hold the bottom to the frame. I did unscrew the bottom. Cleaned in and put it backed together. Handles are tight to the frame and don’t wiggly. Glass is held in place with glazer points– appears there may have been a caulking around ... morethe edge of the glass on the inside that is now all gone. New owner may want to caulk it to keep liquids from getting into the area between the glass and the bottom. There are some surface scratches on the glass– difficult to photograph. One end of the raised edging under the handle has lifted off. It is securely in place and I really don’t think it will peel any further. The painted wood is(was) white and has blue deco style design around the interior border. A quaint bluebird print under glass makes up the bottom of the tray. This piece has encountered water somewhere along it's history. Most likely from being stored in a barn. There is water damage to the print and this can easily be seen in the photos. There is also buckling and some tears noted to the print. The outer edge of the print is white and it has been painted. Most likely to conceal some of the water damage to the print. The wood will most likely perk up with a good cleaning. There is some damage to the blue deco design. Where it appears to almost have slid off.
