This is a very fine hand carved nutcracker that was produced by a few small studios and individuals in the Rhine Valley region of southern German ie Black Forest. Switzerland and northern Italy. This nutcracker depicts a very formal older gentlemen who resembles Otto von Bismark. The nutcracks is in very good condition with exceptional detail to his facial features. We believe this is basswood but not 100% Retains wonderful warm patina that comes from many years of aging. Measures 8" long x 2 3/4" deep at the head. Nice rendition of Otto von Bismark. This is a fantastic item. And except for the base, it seems to be all carved from one piece of wood. It is probably carved from Lindenwood. It is very heavy and stained a rich walnut brown. The carving reminds me very much of the Swiss Carvings from Brienz. Depicting William Tell and his son. This carving is beautifully executed in great detail. Particularly in St. Christopher's beard, as well as his feet and hands. The Christ Child is holding the world in his right hand and giving a blessing with his left hand. This carving is in very good used condition- there is a small quarter inch chip missing on the base to the left of St. Christopher's foot ... morebut it is hardly visible and can easily be stained brown. Smiling, wearing a bright red tie from Germany. It is in perfect condition. He is hand painted. It is 7" tall. 3" wide, and 2" deep. On the bottom I think is written"1980" or else it is the item number#1180. Not sure. It is written in pencil. I believe this is from the Black Forest in Germany. There are no chips. BLACK FOREST Style Wood Carving Shepherd and Sheep
As can be seen in my pictures. This carving is from a single block of wood and depicts a shepherd with a wide brim hat with a crook and his sheep. The original price tag on the base shows as $375. There does appear to be a repair on the brim of his hat but that may be original to the piece or very well done. it stands 11 inches tall and approximately 7 inches wide. I do not know its place of origin but the clothing style appears to be South American.

A vintage Brienz standing bear bud vase. Was purchased some time during 1933 in Redwood Forest California. The bear itself stands 5" tall. With vase the complete piece stands 6" tall. Bear is slightly loose from stand but has not come apart yet. Vase has one rough spot on the edge. Seems to be from manufacturing and not damage. Original glass bead eyes. I have included several photos but please contact me if you need any more or have questions. I am not an expert on the Brienz style but feel confident that this is authentic.

Antique 19th C German Black Forest Wood Carving Birds Glass Eyes Barometer
We are listing for your consideration a lovey Antique late 19th Century German Black Forest Wood Carved Hanging Barometer with 2 Birds. This piece is in Excellent Condition with a slight break to the top birds beak. It has been glued and is 100% secure, some minimal wear to the wood, and the barometer does not work. The glass front to the barometer is held with 3 screws, 1 is missing. No other issues, we guarantee 100% you will be more than happy with the excellent condition. The piece measures 22 1/4" long x 10 1/2" wide x 2 3/4" deep, the barometer has a diameter of 5 1/4" and the piece weighs approximately 2lb 14oz. The barometer has a lovely porcelain white front and is marked Germany. The birds both have a glass eye and the carving of the wood is very nice with great detail. This Little Carving is very old. I found him in a jar of antique buttons I purchased at an ectate sale. He has great character and is a great little esampl eof the Black Forest tradition. His paint is a little suffed(Probably from bouncing around in the button jar. But he is intact with nothing chipped, broken off or missing. You can see from the look on his face taht he is crooning a song and his little dog, at his side, is singing along! He is a little figure standing only 2 3/4 inches tall. Beautifully carved Black Forest bull. The base is 10 3/4 x 4 inches and it is approximately 8 inches tall. The horns were broken off many moons ago as there is a patina of wear over the broken nubs. ANTIQUE WOOD CARVED NUT CRACKER MAN FACE CARVING BLACK FOREST? PATINA ON WOOD
I'm thinking this wood carved face nut cracker could be Black Forest. But not totally sure. The wood has a beautiful patina, but the handle does have some scratch marks on it as you can see in the photo and his left eye has a chip off the corner and the other eyes has small chip outs. Open the handles and his mouth opens to insert the nut, then crunch the handles together to break the nut. Well carved, but cannot see a name on it anywhere.
