These hand carved treasures range from whimsical small bears to large and elaborate mantel clocks, wall clocks, wall plaques showing the most awesome anatomical studies of stag, fowl, fruits of the hunt" I've got more to list so look through the vast collection. I've just used quite a few piece in our own 2nd home decoration, Rocky Mountains location, and love the look as well as the heritage since my own ancestors hail from that region and others. The pieces work well in Country Manor, French Country, Ski Lodge or Hunt Lodge and even in a den or office. Everything from a pocket watch case to huge plaques- from needle and thread holders to cigar caddy- these decorative objects survive today a testament to the artisan's craft of carving wood. Antique Carved Black Forest Bear inkwell/ holder. Beautiful detail & great face.
Antique.Wood Carved Black Forest Bear inkwell/holder. Incredible detail in the different thicknesses of fur throughout the face and head. Black eyes could be glass or a shiny round pinhead. Three carved teeth on each side of mouth. Hundreds and hundreds of fine carved lines in detail. No glass inkwell inside. Front of holder has light wear on top edge. Bottom two nails on hinge are secure but could probably use a tap down( I don't have a tap small enough to do myself) The chin has a tiny v shaped nick that may or may not have been purposeful in the carving. I can't tell and it never detracted from the look of the chin for me. The carved hole for inkwell is 1 and one 1/4 inch across. The tray in front of the bear is 5 1/2 inches across. The bear's head is 3 1/4 inches high. He has a great face. Very authentic/realistic looking

This is not signed. But I think it’s a modest Black Forest carving. Because of the extra little detail and paint on the bear’s face, the dual thermometer scale, the thin milk glass backing on the thermometer, and the fact that the thermometer is glass and filled with what it’s filled with. On the other hand, it's fairly lightweight and looks a little like pine) 5 ¾” overall on a 3” x 2” base. A carved bear walks by a droopy pine tree carved and fit into a slot in the base. Great face on the bear; good precise graphics on the glass. The thermometer works. The shaping is perfect and details are exquisite from the carfully-carved fur down to the buckled upper lip revealing a mouthful of teeth. Eyes have been inserted(glass or other material) The bear sculpture measures 4.5 inches in length while the marble base is 4 x 3.2 inches. Quite heavy for its size. The piece weighs 1.3 pounds. Condition is very good; there is a possible nick to the back right leg(hard to tell) and some minor scratching to the marble. Offering a Victorian era carved bear umbrella stand made if the famous factory of Brienz. The bear does have some issues as seen from photos. There is a crack on the face and eye was replaced. There are several age cracks around on the bear that have been there for many years but the overall condition is stable and still is a very attractive piece! Most all of the bears of this period has age cracks due to shrinkage of the wood over the years. Study photos carefully. Bear is heavy and I am paying for shipping, at ups. I have enjoyed this bear for several years and now it is time to move on and give it a new home.

These are quite heavy pieces and have very detailed workmanship. The teeth and tongues are remarkable. The eyes are glass or beads. the paint on the tongue and claws is still vibrant. There is great detail in the fur around the neck and chin. The ears and noses are not broken. The bears are dusty but I didn't want to clean them for fear of ruining the patina. The classic edges of the wood shout old world Black Forest. The dovetailed joints are fantastic. The screws used to hold the bear in place from the bottom are slotted screws as opposed to Phillips head. Approximately: one weighs 1 pound 3.5 ounces. A vintage Brienz standing bear bud vase. Was purchased some time during 1933 in Redwood Forest California. The bear itself stands 5" tall. With vase the complete piece stands 6" tall. Bear is slightly loose from stand but has not come apart yet. Vase has one rough spot on the edge. Seems to be from manufacturing and not damage. Original glass bead eyes. The complete figurine is very finely hand carved. It was conceived as a vide-poches but is multi-functional. E.g. the extended arms are suitable for holding a thread spool. Unfortunately the bear must have had an accident in its youth so that the left foot needed an operation- but it wasn't an excellent doctor so that the fracture has not merged absolutely. Apart from this fault- which hardly can be recognized and is shown greatly enlarged in the last pictures- it is in very good used condition for the high age. 19th Cen Antique Black Forest bear extendible bookends
This is a really nice set of antique Black forest bear bookends. The carvings are really nice and crisp. Not clumsy like a lot of them are. The color is a medium brown, almost natural. I am offering a great estate find of a BEAUTIFUL LARGE CARVED STANDING BEAR WITH CANE. WOOD CARVING in great vintage condition, I am not sure if the Bear is a Black Forest Carving or not, it measures 9.5" tall 4" from back to paw and 2.5" thick. has a great expression, glass eyes, and a glued on walking stick, I am guessing this bear was a gift or a souvenir.
