Vintage Printers Wooden Type Set Tray Typeset Drawer
3 vintage wooden type set trays. Each measures 22" x 17" The first one has 98 compartments- all dividers in place. Each compartment is 1 1/4" x 2" There are pencil and red crayon marks(letters of alphabet) and no handle on the front. The second tray pictured has 28 small compartments that measure 1" x 2" 22 compartments that measure 1"x4" 14 that are 2 3/8" x 4" and largest is 2 3/8 x 6 1/4" Pencil and red letters marked on inside and no drawer handle. The last tray's compartments are the same size as first pictured- 1 1/4" x 2" There are two dividers missing so two compartments are double sized. The space sizes are approximate(40 2"x3/4" spaces; 21 3.5"x3/4" spaces; 11 4.5"x3/4" spaces; 14 4.5"x2.5" and 1 6.5"x2.5" space. HAMILTON” cast iron drawer pull and the label bracket are firmly attached with label still in place which says“18 Bernhardt Gothic/ ALLEY 1” which I believe is the typeface and size that was stored in this drawer. Measures approximately: 32" x 16.75" Hamilton drawer handle adds another.75" to width) x 1.5" IMPERFECTIONS: A) one space divider(3.5" width size) was cracked in half and the piece is missing so there is only a half of the ... moreoriginal space divider. Which is still firmly in place. This is very easily restorable by either getting another piece made to replace it, sanding the edge and keeping it short, or removing it entirely for a larger space. B) There are water stains to the bottom of the drawer which happened well over 15 years ago. Which does not effect the wood strength. There is no warping. The water stain just affects the color of the wood. C) Markings on tray bottom and wear as expected with a vintage printer drawer that was used. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS Wood dividers in very good condition except for the one described in Imperfections“A” detail above. This Wood Printer's Drawer is sold as is. No return. These type cases have been in active use for around 50 years keeping the individual metal letters in order that are used in traditional letterpress printing and have stood the test of time well. They are in excellent original condition and have no damage. All of the dividers are in good order and have beautiful brass clips across the divider intersections that would polish up to a shine if desired. The wood has a rich natural patina and has been well cared for. You may want to give the compartments a dust/wipe out as the have been stood for sometime unused. There is minor wear to the wood in some places and some light pen marks where the compositor has marked a compartment with a letter but nothing above and beyond what you can see on ... morethe images.
