And the border edge has a chip too. With all these flaws the panel overall condition is good to very good. The flaws don't detract the beauty of this piece. The piece has a appraisal seal of Canton province on black edge, I believe it is an official seal of Canton. please see picture# 11. This a very pretty piece of Chinese small carved panel. The hanger on the back is horizontal, but I think the piece hangs on the wall vertically is much better. Old Chinese Carved Wood Panel - May Be Opium Bed Panel - Wall Decor
This carved wood panel is approximately 26" high. 9 1/2" wide and 1 1/4" deep, and has a gold paint over what looks like red from the look of the sides. I was told by the owner that it came from an antique store in Tucson. AZ, and that they were told it was an antique bed panel from an opium den in China. It does look old, and it appears a piece of thin wood was applied as a backing to the carved area. It seems to be in pretty good condition, although there is a crack in the upper left corner of the carving that is clean and looks rather old.
