Condition This piece has aged well overall. There is some wear on the gilding/relief in places. Mostly near the top. The rest of the vase is in good condition in general with no chips or cracks, please see pictures. There is minor wear on the base as pictured. Colour mixed on a background of cobolt blue Maker/ Brand marked as seen Best Features Stunning large Japanese Satsuma vase with intricate hand painted work all over. We believe it is most likely from the 1920s- 30s. It has many different images and displays beautifully. It has two panels each with different images. The array of colours stand out very well against the colbolt blue. Possibly late Meiji period. Circa early 1900's 20th century The figures have all been intricately decorated and also done in relief. Taiwan Stamp Ancient Chinese Art Painting "18 Scholars of the Tang" MNH Mint
Mint never hinged. The Sung Dynasty painting"Eighteen Scholars of the T’ang" by the Emperor Hui-tsung. 宋徽宗十八學士圖古畫郵票) which is in the National Palace Museum collection. The full painting is printed in a se-tenant block of ten stamps in two rows of five. The Sung Dynasty Emperor Hui-tsung(1082-1135) was a very gifted calligrapher and painter and was especially good at landscape. Flower-and-bird, and figure paintings. Refined and elegant, his style of calligraphy is called"slender gold script" and is characterized by thin yet powerful brush strokes. Eighteen Scholars of the T’ang" depicts a boisterous and joyous party of the era’s literati, with scholars touring the garden, writing poetry, playing music, drinking and feasting. They sip tea, drink wine and eat delicacies in a garden where a creek meanders amid scattered ... morerocks, flowers, pine trees and bamboo. Servants prepare tea and wine by a square table. The table has stretchers between the legs and is decorated with aprons and spandrels. A tea set is placed on the table. Beside the table is a bamboo tea basket with a tea tray on top. A simple wooden-framed two-panel screen sits atop spandrels and shoe feet. The upper part is mullioned and the lower part paneled. The scholars sat around a very large waisted table with recessed legs, a style popular during the T’ang and Five Dynasties. This is the best of several versions of this painting. Fine Antique Chinese Black Fan Silver Painted Art Birds Floral Scholars Wood WOW
Up for auction is this beautiful antique Chinese or Japanese carved wood and silk fan with silver painted artwork consisting of fruits. Flowers, birds, butterfly, and a lovely scene of robed scholars on the wood sticks. The fan is quite unique in that it has a graduated design- the sticks are not the same sizes and this the silk paper material is also cut with a graduated approach. The base of the frame has a mother of pearl button and likely a sterling silver metal piece. Framed professionally in a gilt wood fan case with glass protecting. DNA looks to be in excellent original condition with only minor surface wear expected with age. Minor tears but no visible loss whatsoever. Ready to display and a wonderful antique work of asian art.
