Antique Chinese Marionette Puppet Doll Theatre Mask Blue Demon Old Collection NR
Time to start downsizing. I will be listing a collection of mostly antique Oriental items, as well as other antiques. In the next few weeks and months. These have all been in our family for years, often decades and generations. My mom and grand ma used to be the expert collectors. Bought most of them in post war Germany. I went antique hunting with my mom. But never got to learn the finer points, so please correct me if I should make any mistakes in my descriptions. Antique 19th Cent Chinese / Japanese Theater Puppet Doll Mounted in Acrylic Case
This is a nice antique 19th century Chinese or Japanese theater puppet/ doll mounted in an acrylic case. In pretty nice shape as the pics show with silk embroidered clothing with dragon decoration on the front and the back has some type of fish decoration that I believe are depicting koi. It does have some wear like that shown with losses to the decoration that was on the face and the feet have imperfections as well. The head also is removable and has a hole in the head on the top. I'm not sure exactly how it was mounted but believe the little piece in the back holds ot on there. The left shoulder area of the clothes doesn't lay flat anymore and although not pictured the acrylic case has minor wear/ scratches the worst of which are on the base and it comes exactly as shown. RARE Antique Vintage Chinese Wood Marionette Opera Theater Hand Puppet Doll This is from a collectors estate. I believe this is a rare Chinese theater puppet. It is made of wood with elaborate clothing and seems very detailed. It does have scuffs. Scratches, chips to the wood and some tears to the clothing but from what I have read I think it may be over 100 years old. One of the legs was restrung with ribbon and probably needs to be restrung again as it was strung backwards. I was going to reverse it but I figured I would leave it alone and let someone do it who is familiar with these puppets. The mustache feels like real hair but Im not sure. I think the strings are all there but please look at all the pictures as I dont know anything at all about these puppets. Beautiful old piece. This is is an estate find. Chinese Taiwanese Oriental HAND PUPPET Doll Ornate + Old
~ VINTAGE CHINESE WOODEN HAND PUPPET DOLL ~ This is a Chinese hand puppet. Also called a glove puppet(possibly from a traditional Taiwanese"Palm of The Hand" opera) It is 17"18" tall from the top of the scalp to the end of the rabbit-type fur on the bottom of robe. The head is separate from the costumed body. But could probably be permanently affixed if desired( more below) The puppet has a hand-carved wooden. Polychrome head with intricately carved and painted facial features and expression. The elaborate, silk costume is muslim-lined: it prominently features blue, pink and green-dyed rabbit-type fur accents, and an array of ornate sequins, metallic piping, mirrors, rick rack, etc. The craftsmanship appears to be combination of machine-sewing, hand-stitching, and hand-gluing, and possibly some hand staining of applique(evidence ... moreof some color seepage seen on the lining) Underneath this older costume a dark brown fabric bodice is worn. It has an opening on the bottom through which the puppeteer reaches his/her hand into the main cavity of the bodice; from here there are 3 openings for the fingers to manipulate the left and right arms. And the head, respectively. Each fabric arm has a carved, painted wooden hand affixed, and each seed-filled leg has a carved, painted wooden boot affixed. The bodice with wooden extremeties does not appear to have the same craftsmanship or show nearly as much wear as the older robe costume it supports above. Thus, we believe this part is a replacement to maintain the puppet either as a working puppet, or to present a more complete exhibition item. Condition: No chips. Cracks or repairs to the carved head; a couple of very tiny flecks to the facial paint; could be missing a headdress. The costume shows age and wear, including soil, stain, and loss of a few of the numerous embellishments. As far as we can tell, neither the un-attached wooden head nor the costume nor the fabri c bodice underneath shows any sign that the head was ever affixed in any permanent way. I.e

This is a stunning antique large handmade Chinese marionette opera articulated doll. it is a large doll completely made by hand with an abundance of detailing and materials. the body is carved from wood and each joint is articulated together to be able to move very lifelike. it has hooks on the hands and back and the head turns side to side. her head is made from ceramic and nicely painted and she has real black hair. her headpiece is very detailed and intricately designed. the gown is mainly made from a light green silk and many other materials including nice tasseled finish. has gold embroidery and floral embellishments. it measures 18 1/2 inches long. it is an old doll so has some ware. the nose tip is chipped and painted over. and her gown has some color bleeding from the red trim.
