Fabulous Antique Japanese Faux Ivory Floral Decorated Page Turner
For auction is this stunning antique Japanese Meiji faux ivory page turner. Exquisitely decorated in raised form with flowers. Foliage, dragonflies and butterflies, all lightly gilded. It measures 36.5cm in length and is 3.5cm wide. This is very similar to shibayama work but it is on the surface, not inset into the faux ivory. It is in excellent condition with no chips at all. A good even colour and only very minor wear to the gilding from handling over the years. The decoration has been done to a very high standard and is very detailed. A really delightful piece. Please look at all the pictures as they form an important part of the description. I do my best to describe my items accurately and honestly. However please keep in mind that I am not an expert. OK. I don't have a clue so I've loaded a lot of photos. 8 1/2 inches long. Appears to be hand carved. Note in photos of back of handle that it appears handle is held to blade with two pegs( Unsure of material but seems to have distinct grain. Note slight rough spots on tip in close ups. Blade is very thin and translucent- can see fingers through it with barely any light behind. Hopefully, the label will help someone identify. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS! Antique Edwardian c1900s Faux Ivory Carved Page Turner Letter Opener 12 3/4" Original edwardian period antique page cutter and turner or letter opener made of faux ivory and carved with intricate detail of elephants and a mosaic pattern blade all polished and beautiful. Measures about 12 3/4" inches by 1 5/8" inches and appears to be a two piece unit with pins securing it to the handle. Here is where you see a small crack at one side only but there is no structural issues. The blade has a few chips out of the edges all around because it becomes thin for it's purpose of cutting paper. Center pattern has no damage and is very detailed. Antique Victorian 1894 Page Turner with Hallmarked Silver Mounts
I have for sale this impressive Chinese page turner with mounted with hallmarked silver. The piece has the most beautiful natural grain. The silver is hallmarked for English sterling silver. Was assayed in Sheffield with the date letter for 1894 and the makers mark J R. The piece measures 33cm/13" in length and has a total weight of 119Grams approx. The piece is in very good condition with a shrinkage hairline on the handle which quite normal for this type of natural material. There are also a few miner bumps and blemishes but none of the above spoils the look or use. This is a striking piece to grace any desk. Please contact me with any questions you may have. I know you will have a real problem finding a similar item to this.its really FABULOUS. when you think that this was made WITHOUT the aide of electric lighting.it must have taken hours upon hours of concentration to pierce and fret the handle. then work the interior to create the FIGURE of a god- goddess- diety or whatever it is. inside. remember. this handle has not been made by making the centre bit and then the outer bit and sliding it over the ... moretop and gluing. its MADE in SITU.there is no join. it is made similar to the PUZZLE BALLS.worked from the outside. So it has this figure inside. of course this is NOT as well finished off as the main handle. it couldnt be could it. one hand is down to the waist and the other hand looks to be HOLDING the roof up.it has a face and clothing is defined too.with hatching marks.it is 3 dimensional too and NOT flat. The handle is decorated in swirls of foliage I think. all the way around it. it is an oval sort of section. with a FLOWER petals on the very top.I can see one slight bit where its NOT been fully carved- pierced design. the rest of it is really fabulous. with NO damage either. which is incredible. considering all the usual things.age and period of time from it being made to now! The curved and slightly wider bottom edge is nice. makes me think this is a PAGE TURNER. you will see it has a central pierced- fretted design as well down the length of it. more foliage with leaves. It features expert carving with a great age patina. The motif is that of a frog. Holding a basket in one hand and holding a lotus flower in the other. Up for sale is a stunningly large vintage silverplated bronze and celluloid Asian dragon page turner. it can also be used as a letter opener if desired. the handle is extremely dimensional and very well made. it is done in the shape of a very realistic dragon creating a lovely composition. the long pointed shaft is made from an off white celluloid. the turner lays flat on a level surface, it is in nice condition measuring 11 1/4 inches by 1 3/4 inches.
