Late Qing(1892-1912) Intricately Carved Floral/Foliage Butterfly Brown Soapstone Bookends Intricately and beautifully carved large brown soapstone bookends made during the late Qing Dynasty. 1900-1912. High end set of large heavy three dimensionally carved bookends. The upper 80% of the design is a layering of leaves and round fruit. In the center of the leaves is a single flower with a butterfly preparing to take nectar. At the bottom is a rectangular panel with stylized waves rising around a fish whose head and fins are just rising out of the water. This intricate scene curves around to the outside where it is banded with a classic Chinese geometric border design. The pieces are marked“CHINA” on the base. This mark, the theme and style of carving date the production in the 1900-1912 period. You are bidding on a large late 19th century Chinese Cinnabar lacquer vase. Height 10.5 inches. Nice colouration. I have taken one photo with flash and one without so you can accurately assess it's tone. It has two areas of damage. One on the shoulder(see picture 7) and one where an impact has pushed in the surface of the vase(see photos 9 and 10) All the lacquer is still present so I have not attempted to push it back out from the inside. This wonderfully decorated jar has four round emblems spaced equally around the jar body. Each emblem has a purplish pink circle centered with a blue double bat with double happiness symbols against a green background with white dots in the field. Between the emblems are purplish pink. Red and yellow flowers intertwined with white and green foliage backed with a contrasting green. A border around the base consists of purplish pink waves. The rim is bordered with a yellow line and green leaf patterned band. The base and interior are glazed white. The is a fascinating and colorful example that is rarely seen. Chinese Late Qing 1870s-1880s Intricately Carved Reddish Brown Soapstone Scene This is one of the most intricately carved soapstone pieces I have owned. If it does not sell it will be going into my private collection. The piece has been carved from reddish brown soapstone which gives the scene depth and detail. The front of the scene has mossy rocks and jagged wood. Sitting on top of this base on the left is a large baluster form vessel. The right of the scene consists of a bonsai bowl with a profusely flowering plant rising out of it. The details and delicacy of the leaves and flowers are exceptional. Towards the bottom three birds are perched eating fruit from the plant. The scene is backed by two large ovoid vessels. The base has been hallowed indicating the care and detail that went into making this piece. The piece is not marked and ... morebased on the style and type and quality of the carving(no mechanical tools were used to make it) it was probably made in the 1870s or 1880s. The piece does have a chip in one rim of one of the back ovoid vessels that I have photographed in detail. Amazingly. There are no other chips or problems with the rest of the vessel. Considering the fineness and delicate carving on this piece this is quite rare not to see damage to the details. This is a very notable piece for the delicate and detailed carving and the execution of the overall scene. Great care was taken in developing a balanced and airy scene. Finely Carved Antique Chinese Cinnabar Plaque 19th Century- Late Qing Dynasty ~ please scroll down for more photos and information ~ SIZE: 2.75" x 3.25" 7 x 8.25 cm) DESCRIPTION: Beautiful and finely carved antique Chinese cinnabar plaque. With bronze backing. It depicts an old man and child walking in the wilderness. The carving is very nice, detailed, and dimensional. The bronze on the back has a dark patina. Which indicates that the piece is quite old. AGE: Late 19th century. Late Qing Dynasty. CONDITION: Very good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: No cracks. No chips, no repairs.
