This wonderful little jar looks great. It's small so it fits anywhere. And is a real eye catcher. Signed by artist on the jar and the lid. I can't say for sure. But I don't think the man and woman on this jar are making rice. 3 3/4" tall x 3 1/2" widest. There is one very thin hair line shown in pictures. The jar lid has a high spot in the pottery. Shown in pictures. This little jar would be a great addition to your collection or gift for that collector in the family. But If someone gives you a jar to sell that you have never seen before. How do you make a judgement. Put simply: You don't. You put some pictures up and let other. More knowledgeable folk, make up their minds whether they want to buy it or not. It has been in the same family for the last 80 years; it is made of coarsely grogged stoneware; it has got TWO colours of glaze normally associated with celadon( although it looks to me as if the colour difference is just down to the thickness of the glaze) and it does not have a lid. It weighs 911 gms and is almost square in dimensions; 16cms tall. 15 cms wide: these are facts( in our space/time frame) Anything else is hypothesis and/or personal opinion. There is some rust on the inside suggesting that water was in this jar at one time. It is 6" tall with the top included. 6" at the widest point. Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating objects. In recent centuries using. And in older periods also inlays of cut. Glass, and other materials. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné.
