The sugar shaker or caster is made from 1 14.6 grams of sterling silver in an inverted pear like shape that stands on a raised step decorated circular foot that has a raised relief decorated outer rim. The sugar shaker or caster has a raised relief and stepped rib decorated central body and upper rim and it has a decoratively pierced dome shaped push fitting lid that has a decorated finial on the top. The sugar shaker, caster or sifter has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below and the upper body along with the lower lid have been impressed with English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows. J.D& S- Crown- Lion Passant- A J.D& S is the Sheffield silversmith or makers mark of James Dixon& Sons Ltd. The silver hallmarks are still clearly legible although as this sugar shaker or caster is a used antique it does have the odd small shallow dent in its body and lid and the finial leans ever so slightly to one side. It has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss.
