Sensational Antique Chinese Carved Precious Wood Floor Screen w/Porcelain
Throughout our years of collecting. We found over time exquisite floor screens in an endless array of master works, usually those of rare imperial shops created for palaces. Our aim was to find screens for each and every room in our summer, winter, and beach homes. They provided the foundation and dazzling background for all of the artifacts that graced each room. Here is one of them. Which you can see is quite awesome. It adorned our large dressing rooms in the master suite of the main house. The cut work was used for intrigue; it was not meant for privacy. The intricate carving of the cut work is the result of months of artistic labor. We have learned that perhaps it took more than a year to accomplish. The half roundels that grace the crown of each panel show phoenix in a variety of poses. The lavish Grecian type designs with interlaced ... moreleaves are a rare and most likely traditional pattern of the family who occupied the grand residence for which the screen was made. The collection of porcelains centered in the panels of this screen are magnificent. The artistry is delicate. The birds and flowering limbs are breathtaking. And each of the main panels bear poetry with signatures or seals of the artist. While each panel is different, the cranes, the pines, the choice of blossoms, the lyrical boughs all symbolize long life and multitudes of progeny which the Chinese culture has traditionally wished for. On the back of the screen are fine etchings on each panel. The grace and message of each etching echo the porcelains on the face of the screen. We have done our best in all the photographs and should you want to see any more photos we will pursue capturing any parts of the screen you may want to investigate more deeply. The final triumph of this piece is that the precious heavy wood was finished with a cinnabar lacquer applied very lightly with many coats so wood grains can still cast their beauty through the painstakingly finished cinnabar lacquer.
