This is a carved figure of two dragons made from soapstone( in China. It measures about 7" in height. 4" wide at the base(marble? and 1 1/2" front to back; it weighs 28 ounces. Carved out of one piece of stone. Great workmanship. In Excellent as shown condition with a few smaller than pin size white spots on the seated bird's wing. And in the middle, which are not chips or flakes, rather the body of the original stone, which might have been painted over, or just a different color in the stone structure. I know very little of this stone carving so I have very little to say. This came from an estate of an elderly lady and I believe this is carved out of soapstone. Looks like marble to me. So I do not know! Chinese? Japanese? Some kind of lovebirds with long tail feathers kissing each other in a cherry tree in bloom. Peacocks? I do know, however, that both birds have lost the tips of their head feathers. That probably could be smoothed out a little bit? Other than that, I do not see any other breaks or cracks. Age and origin is unknown. No markings anywhere that I can find. Measures 6.5" tall and 4.25" wide. This is sold AS IS, the damage has been disclosed. Very pretty piece, nevertheless. Please. Here is a lovely old Oriental carving that I believe to be a brush holder. Judging by the deliberate holes through the top. It looks like soapstone as a material. And is nicely detailed. The main body of the carving is a pale jade green on a rusty brown plinth. It depic ts cranes or storks under a tree and is nicely stylised and attractive to look at. The quality of the carving and size and coloring of the stone contribute to the determination of value. This one is a good size piece. The coloring is a rich chocolate brown, and the quality of the carving is quite intricate. It is obvious to me the artist was highly talented. Dating soapstone carvings can be difficult. But I suspect this piece was done pre-1900. Many pieces were brought back by soldiers during WW II and the Korean War. The origin of this piece was from my aunt. And my uncle(her husband) served in both WWII and the Korean War, so I suspect he brought it back from those travels. I know this one(along with a couple of others which will appear on eBay over the next few weeks) were in their home as long as I can remember– and I am in my mid-60s. The piece measures 9 1/2" H) x 9 1/2" W) x 3 1/2"D) And weighs 7 lbs. 8.9 oz. There are several scratches/dings on surface of soapstone, these appear on one side, the back of the sculpture and the lip of one vase, and are shown in images 5, 6 and 10. There are two hairline fractures or lines in the stone, one on each vase, shown in images 7 and 8. These do not affect the structural integrity of piece, vases do hold water. This was obtained at a local estate sale, age is not known.

SUPERB CHINESE 2 COLOR SOAPSTONE CARVING 'WILD HORSES' W STAND ONE SOLID PIECE
For auction we have here a superbly executed Chinese soapstone carving of a group of wild running horses on top of a rocky base or stand. This carving was produced in China sometime in the c1900s most likely around the c1960s to the 70s would be my best guess and is done from one solid piece in which the artist has selected a two color stone which he cleverly has made the light olive carved stone seemingly appear to rise out of the chocolate colored base in a very successful manner. The horses are shown running upwards on a mountain path complete with boulders. Grasses and even a glimpse of the setting sun towards the top in the background. The carving and details are very well done with a nice surface finish and a great size and type for displaying under a light to show the scenes. Condition is perfect with no chips, cracks, losses or repairs ... moreand is very clean and ready to display.
