There is a fair bit of the mother of pearl inlaid missing so it is sold as seen with no returns. Most the bits missing are on the tree section. The Chinese panel is black lacquer with carved mother of pearl shell depicting a beautiful garden scene. Incredible detail throughout. The shell is all hand painted with amazing colors and the iridescence from the shell glows through. It seems almost lifelike. This piece is artist signed as shown in photo#8. It is mounted in a glass covered shadow box frame. It has two metal handle mounts at the top for hanging. There is one small strip of loose shell sitting at the very right side of frame edge(seen in photo) I have not been able to find any spot where it may have belonged. So clearly not noticeable but mentioned for accuracy. The panel is approx. 43" long and 23 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" deep. Age unknown. Chinese? japanese? found in a pile of stuff at an antiques store in Murfreesboro TN this weekend. Was very dusty/dirty made of different woods cut and put together to form this interesting vignette of a man with a large?catfish? or carp? picture sits proud of the surface also made of wood the core looking down on the top edge looks to be plywood border moulding looks handcarved sort of egg and dart pattern little damage to right side of that moulding one little piece of the fish tail is missing(could be replaced if you like) I have this displayed on an easel as an object of art but it is actually some kind of door off? This Chinese/Japanese tapestry is in mint condition and exquisite! It's hard to believe it dates circa 1918 and most probably late 19th century. My neighbor tells me her in-laws lived in Tien Tsin. China, circa 1918, where her husband was born, and that this was given to them as a wedding present. Her husband's parents were tobacco merchants at that time. My neighbor is eighty-five years young and has kept this treasured piece in a box, checking it for wear over the years, feeling it was too nice to use. I am familiar with fabrics, have sewn many clothes in my day, and I attest that the quality of the work is to the very highest standards in all ways. I hope someone can appreciate the many hours that went into producing this item. The piece measures five feet wide by six feet and seven inches down and appears to have started as two ... morereams of pink silk-you can see the blue line on back in the pictures where it is pieced. Antique Chinese Carved Bone on Wood Panel UNUSUAL AND RARE
This auction is for a wooden panel with applied rectangles made of ox bone which has been carved into a gorgeous scene of dragons.Phoenixes, mountains, water, trees, and clouds surrounded by a border with an intricate flowing motif. The Chinese are reknowned for their intricate carvings, but on this piece the carving has been done on small bone panels which have been applied to the wood. This piece is very unusual and the quality of the carving is high. the aged bone has a delicate patina. It appears that this panel was once a door to a piece of furniture(perhaps a cabinet) because of the rabbeted edge(see photo) This does not affect the appearance of the piece from the front. There are no hinge marks or screw holes. There is a keyhole hanger on the back so it is ready to hang on the wall. I don't know the age of this piece. But I would ... moreguess it to befrom the late 19 th to the early twentieth century. The wooden panel has been painted to match the bone; this was probably done when the panel was removed from the piece of furniture it was a part of. Any screw holes from hinges were probably filled and painted over at this time; therefore I believe the paint to be much newer than the piece itself. There are two small nicks on the very edge at the top and top left corner(see photos) but they are very small and and do not detract from the overall appearance. Otherwise. Antique Asian Chinese 19th Century Hand Carved Wood Panel, Ox Motif
This is an antique Chinese hanging wooden panel. Depicting what appears to be a stylized ox. Very nicely carved. Hard to put a date on this; my guess is the 19th century, but that's just a guess. It once had gold and red paint on it, but that's now mostly worn off. There is a small chip of wood missing from the upper right corner. Aside from this it's in very good condition. 14 1/4" X 6 1/2.

Antique Chinese hand-carved gold gilt decorative wooden wall panel I bought this wood carving in 1998 in Yangshuo. A little town near Guilin in Guangzhou Province. These types of hand-carved panels are over 100 years old and were used as decoration inside houses above windows. On bed frames, and bordering archways between rooms. Antique dealers came around to the houses and offered the people money for them and began selling them in their shops. Because they were cut out from the walls, the edges are bare wood. A cinnabar red lacquer or paint or combination of the two was used to coat the wood. In 1998 I took the train to Hong Kong and flew home from there. There is no customs inspection in Hong Kong and this is why there is no custom wax seal on this piece certifying it as permissible to leave the country since it is folk art not fine art. ... moreThis is very similar to another piece I am selling but this one is a darker shade of cinnabar that has turned almost brown with age so I am not selling them as a pair. I am not sure of the meaning of the figures. The larger figure is carrying a baby so this may be some sort of temple ceremony. There is a temple roof to the right with a beautiful tree filling the top portion. It measures 10 inches by 7 and 7/8 inches and weighs 13 ounces. The carving is in high relief. Rising 1 and ¼ inches from the back. The back is a separate board with the carving glued to the board. The edges have been sanded and stained with walnut stain to cover the bare wood. The gilt has been very slightly restored as this piece was almost perfect when I bought it. The wood forming the bottom border of the frame has been gouged out at the lower right corner with a lesser gouge at the left corner. Otherwise, it is in very good condition for its age. A decorative Chinese brass hanger has been added. Free domestic shipping. International buyers must pay postage and no returns on international.

The only flaw being a crack in the wood in the upper right corner of one of the pieces that is caused by a flaw in the wood. The edges of the wood have been sanded and stained a light walnut color to cover the bare wood. Each piece has its original cinnabar background.
