With the calm elegance that typifies Han dynasty ... morevessels. The bold silhouette and flowing curves communicate both power and grace in equal measure. The cocoon jar is of classic distinctive form, with pedestal base, wide voluminous body, short neck and thick everted and faceted rim. The body adorned with intricate pattering, the design consists of images of swirling heavenly clouds, painted in vibrant red and white, which stand out beautifully against the charcoal hue of the clay. Large and decorative. These elegant vases were used as storage vessels for wine and other liquids, and were ultimately intended for use in the afterlife as a show of wealth and status. In an excellent state of preservation with the painted decoration still vivid, this stunning piece is a fine example of a particuarly sought after Chinese ceramic type. For an example of a cocoon jar that sold at Christies in 2011. Height: 10 1/2 inches. Width: 10 3/4 inches. Condition: Excellent. Chinese Museum Reference Book Material Samples Han Dynasty 206BC Excavated 1959
A beautiful silk covered Chinese reference book of material samples. The book was printed in 1973 in Chinese. Someone has translated some of the writing in pencil underneath. It seems to show samples of silk and wool material dating from East Han Dynasty 206 BC which were excavated in 1959 and I believe we're all found in Turfan. One of the samples was found in a grave together with a tablet dated AD 551. I have photographed a sample of the pages. Chinese Han Dynasty Wadang Roof Tile
This is small Han Dynasty wadang decorative roof tile featuring the"white tiger with stripes" that was one of the prized symbols of Han culture and lore. It is about the size of a U.S. silver dollar. A smaller wadang that may have come off a small roof over a well or decorative garden structure. It is anywhere from 1800-2200 years old. Picture number 9496(green backround is outdoor carpet as the piece is in clear glass) is the best for viewing with the magnification feature on any picture viewer software that you have on your computer. You can see the centuries of age worn on the tile in detail when you zoom in. The white tiger with stripes still stands out in bold relief with it's stripes on the body and tail visible. I found this piece in a thrift store in Florida. Near where I reside. I believe it to be the only of it's ... morekind for sale as China does not knowingly let these rare tiles out of the country. The deer was hence a common decorative motif during the Qin Period. In the Han Dynasty, the technique of making wadangs reached its peak. Han Dynasty Bronze Chinese Arrow End FLOWER
This is an interesting Han Dynasty artifact. It is a bronze arrow end in the shape of a flower. It would have been used to pull the arrow back while on the bow. It dates to circa 100BC-100AD.
