This is a very early antique Chinese ginger jar converted to a lamp base. The jar has brilliant cobalt blue decoration of a Canton Export scene. The jar has been drilled for the cord. And the cord needs to be replaced. This is a really nice example and is really beautiful. The jar is otherwise in good condition and could use a good cleaning. This would be the oldest lamp base I have ever sold. The jar is from around 1840. This will make a fantastic addition to any collection or home decor. The buyer will be very pleased. The jar measures 7 inches or 17.8 cm high and 5 inches or 12.7 across its widest. The jar features flying birds around raised enameled flowers in with branches and leaves set on a pink background. The leaves. Rim of jar and rim of lid are trimmed in gilding. The design is very pretty. The bottom of the jar is marked with a Chinese chop mark. The jar itself is in very good condition with the exception of a small flea bite on the bottom rim. The lid has a tight spider line in the lid and a small chip on the rim. Very minor. Gold Rush" Chinese Export" Terms that I have no idea of the meaning. They possibly relate to the historic provenance of this jar. But If someone gives you a jar to sell that you have never seen before. How do you make a judgement. Put simply: You don't. You put some pictures up and let other. More knowledgeable folk, make up their minds whether they want to buy it or not. It has been in the same family for the last 80 years; it is made of coarsely grogged stoneware; it has got TWO colours of glaze normally associated with celadon( although it looks to me as if the colour difference is just down to the thickness of the glaze) and it does not have a lid. It weighs 911 gms and is almost square in dimensions; 16cms tall. 15 cms wide: these are facts( in our space/time frame) Anything else is hypothesis and/or personal opinion. A Five(5) Toe Dragon opposite Bird. The bottom has a red 4 character stamp along with"CHINA" which is fading from age, but can be made out(please see the pictures) Condition: The wear appears normal for a piece this age. There is a chip in the lid and hair line crack. But the lid is intact. I could not find any evidence of any repairs. There is some wear on the gold accent but nothing too serious. The rust spots and some of the pitting is how it was made and not from any mishandling or damage. It continues to present well. Dimensions: It is about 5.5" in height with the cover on it. Chinese Rare Middle Qing Dynasty Sang de Boeuf Oxblood Porcelain Ginger Jar
Chinese Rare Middle Qing Dynasty(Late 18 th Century) Sang de Boeuf Oxblood Porcelain Ginger Jar This is nothing short of an AWESOME piece. Late 18 th Century(Late 1700s) Sang de Boeuf glaze porcelain ginger jar(with lid) with a true perfect oxblood color. To make things even better there is an enhancing blue flambé flare around the vessel rim and the lid rim. Classic early Qing Dynasty period squatter bulbous form thinner bodied ginger jar with lid. Classic early and middle Qing Dynasty period rough foot. Yellowish base and underside of lid as expected for the period. The oxblood glaze on very close inspection exhibits dark and light streaks as found on pieces with the sought after perfect oxblood coloring. On close inspection has the look of a dark red apple. This piece has wonderful occasional bubbling in the glaze visible under 10X ... moremagnification. It is in excellent condition with no cracks or hairlines. There is a chip on the interior vessel rim and some light chips on the underside of the lid. For vessels this rare this piece is in great condition. The vessel does show evidence of use and lots of evidence of age. The foot has smooth wear on a few high spots and under 20X magnification there are tiny use wear scratches seen all over the vessel. The glaze has a slightly oxidized haze as expected on pieces this age. Under 20X magnification you see crazing in the glaze and glaze deterioration in the lid rim area of the container. All of these are evidence of the pieces age. Large vessels and particularly ginger jars with their original lid from this period are rare as opposed to those that can be found dating after the mid-19 th century. The glaze on this piece is even rarer. This vessel has an even oxblood overall look which is the glaze that was sought after when they were making these vessels. With this oxblood glaze the vessel has the appearance of being much lighter and almost seems to float. An inspiring piece that would be a prize in a Sang de Boeuf collection. Antique Chinese Porcelain Underglaze Blue Ginger Jar Early Qing Dynasty Qianlong
WELCOME TO MY PAGE UP FOR AUCTION: ANTIQUE CHINESE BLUE& WHITE PORCELAIN GINGER JAR EARLY QING DYNASTY The featured item represents an antique Chinese porcelain ginger jar that measures approximately 6" tall. 2 1/2" in diameter at the lips and 5 1/4" at the base foot rim. The jar is decorated with hand painted under the glaze cobalt blue scenes with water. Boats, mountains and primitive buildings. The neck of the piece is shaved off the glaze, the foot rim is also unglazed. Everything else, the lips, interior, exterior and the base are glazed. There are no marks. The jar was most likely produced in Jingdezhen during the Qianlong reign but is it possible to date to Jiaqing or Daoguang period. The item comes in overall good condition for its age. As pictured. There is no lid for the jar. Photo#3 is showing the inside where ... moreyou can see the condition of the glaze on the bottom. Photos# 10& 11 are revealing the base where also glaze cracks and chips can be observed. Chips on the foot rim as well. Photo#9 is showing a chipped piece off the inside of the mouth. The exterior has no major cracks or other surface damages but as well is showing quite of age and wear. Expect some natural and firing flaws like rust spots, firing imperfections, glaze pin holes and cracks etc. I would say all of the above is quite normal for the age of the piece, plus it give the jar a nice antique appearance. For your consideration is a beautiful Blue& White Prunus Blossom Chinese Ginger Jar. This piece is in fantastic condition! There is a micro chip on the underside of the lip on the lid and a few micro chips on the base. Which are relatively common with pieces this old. There is also a small flair out on the edge of the lid which just appears to be excess enamel or porcelain. The mark reads Kangxi Nian Zhi which translates to Kangxi Period Made and was likely made between 1880 and 1920. The lamp stands at 31 1/4" to tip of finial and the circumference is 30 1/2"this was probably rewired in the seventies judging by the cord.The bottom was rusted badly but I sanded most of it away.This has been checked and in working order.

Two beautifully carved Chinese hardwood lids for ginger jars from the estate of a major and well-known Asian arts collector. Both have damage. The lid on the right has an outside diameter of 4 1/8" and and inside diameter of 3 3/8" It's 2" tall to the top of the finial. It has a spot of loss seen in the 6th photo. And both sides of the bottom rim have been glued. The lid on the right is much darker wood and is stamped CHINA in the wood. For your consideration is this exquisite Tea Caddy or Ginger Jar from China dating to the Kangxi Period in the 19th Century around 1850-1899. The detail of cobalt blue glaze in this hand painted design is exceptional and there are no chips or cracks. I have not cleaned this piece but the porcelain can be cleaned as it is dirty and stained. The Jar is 8.5" plus 1.5" LID for a total of 10" in height. The double circle and six character marks on the underneath indicates it is an important older piece of Kangxi and of course it is very beautiful! The vessel has all the fine illustrations of Bats. Antique Chinese Porcelain Ginger Jar & crotcheted net /varigated floss holder
My aunt& uncle lived in Shanghai. China, in the early 1930s. This jar was among their possessions and dates from at least the 1930s, if not older. The crotcheted netting looks like it is made of twisted silk floss or cording. it is made like a stretchable net with a drawstring and handle to carry the jar. The lidded jar is approximately 5-1/4 inches tall, 4" diameter at the shoulder, and 2-1/2 inches diameter at the base ring. There is no manufacturer's mark on this that I can see. There is a tiny red glaze mark inside the porcelain lid which looks like the number"7" There is an iron spot on the inside edge of the lid. There is residue at the neck of the jar where the lid sits, which appears to be a waxen sealant, probably to hold the lid on safely during transport. The inner stopper is carved wood and fits very snugly ... moreon the neck of the jar. The colorful design is of a woman and 2 small boys in a garden setting. This garden theme continues around to the backside of the jar, with the depiction of a fluttering butterfly and suggested grassy hummocks in a linear design along the bottom horizon line. It is a quaint little home scene on a quaint little jar. Chinese Late Qing(mid 19 th Century) Over Glaze Polychrome Porcelain Ginger Jar Rare and fine quality large polychrome over glaze decorated porcelain ginger jar made in the mid 19 th century. This wonderfully decorated jar has four round emblems spaced equally around the jar body. Each emblem has a purplish pink circle centered with a blue double bat with double happiness symbols against a green background with white dots in the field. Between the emblems are purplish pink. Red and yellow flowers intertwined with white and green foliage backed with a contrasting green. A border around the base consists of purplish pink waves. The rim is bordered with a yellow line and green leaf patterned band. The base and interior are glazed white. The is a fascinating and colorful example that is rarely seen. The foot has been worn wonderfully smooth from movement. This bowl is notable for so many attributes. Early porcelain ginger jars particularly with over glaze designs are rarely seen. Lot of 2 Vintage Green Glaze Hexagonal Chinese Pottery Ginger Jar-Floral Panels
For sale are two of the antique or vintage ginger jars that have the green glaze and 6 sides. Along with one of the lids to a larger, similar, ginger jar. The lid fits a jar that has an opening that is about 2 1/4" in diameter. This lid is a total of 3" in diameter. Both jars are 3 1/2" tall. Note that one of the panels is damaged in the one where the glaze does not go all the way to the bottom.

hi all here for sale is a chinese hand painted ginger jar it is missing its lid there is a double blue ring mark to the base of the jar and also a double blue ring around the top of the jar. on the rim of the top of the jar(where the lid should go) is 3 red lines/marks to it.
