ANTIQUE FRENCH CHINOISERIE JAPANESQUE INKWELL DESK BOX Presented is a fine antique ... moreFrench papier-mâché inkwell box with wonderful Chinoiserie or Japanesque decoration. The lid of the box is beautifully hand painted and gilded with a scene of Oriental figures in the foreground and flowers. Trees, clouds, and architecture in the background. The sides of the box are gilded and painted with a bird on one side and a teapot on the other side. The interior has compartments for the two original glass inkwells and a center box with a removable lid for other desk supplies. The interior of the lid is recessed so that the glass inkwells set perfectly flush against it. The inkwells never had individual lids. This is exactly the way the set was made. There is a pen rest at the front of the piece decorated with gilt flowers, scrolls, and leaves. This inkwell box was made in the second half of the 1800s between the 1860s and the 1890s. The condition is excellent. There is one small chip to the lower corner of the box. But it is on the back side so you dont really notice it. The painted and gilt decoration has some light surface wear commensurate with age, but this is minor. We did not clean this piece thoroughly because we wanted to leave it as we found it, but it should clean up a bit if you wish. We will leave that up to the new owner. The hinged lid is working well. The glass inkwells are in great shape. There are no other chips, no cracks, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The entire piece measures 8 3/4 inches by 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/8 inches. Antique Chinese Kangxi Covered Baluster Jar For auction is this interesting well painted antique Chinese Kangxi famille verte covered baluster jar that was drilled out and converted to a lamp. Probably from 19th century. There is a large noticeable crack that runs across the jar, 12 inches(30.0 cm) long and very thin, that I have photographed. Up for auction this extremely fine and rare Eighteenth Century Chinese Kangxi Period Famille Verte c.1680- 1700. Decorated in overglaze colours with floral motifs outlined in black, using the green palette alongside iron red, blue, and yellows. The charger has a central motif of flowers& prunus root in a rocky or craggy landscape. With four panels of similar decoration around the edge. Each is painted in black to outline the decoration and then filled in with over glaze enamelling. Excellent quality decoration, all by hand and typical of the early Famille Verte or"Green Family" pallette. The back of the charger has iron red floral motifs. And has a central mark in underglaze cobalt blue. The mark is of two circles, signifying longevity and a central"Dong" mark- a depiction of a bronze vessel. Totally hand painted with delicate enamel. It has been decorated with bouquets of flowers, garlands, leaves and has two main decorations: one of them depicts a lovely young maiden in a garden surrounded by flowers and storks and the other one shows a lovely peacock also surrounded by trees and flowers. The piece also has cobalt blue friezes painted with golden details. The base and the top of the piece have French sterling silver mounts( 950/1000 purer than Sterling) partially gilded following the attractive hexagonal form of the porcelain, the silver mount of the base is decorated with laurel leaves and tine fruits and has a natural ring to pass the wire. The ... morelid repeats the same sterling silver decoration of the base but with an important pierced mount to let the light and the heat come out. The top of the lid is decorated with a fine pinnacle. Each sterling silver part is hallmarked with the‘Mercury Head 1’ for the highest standard of silver‘950’ and the lozenge with the silversmith’s mark‘M S(hammer) Co’ The porcelain as well as the high quality silverwork are impeccable. Chenghua Nian Zhi Chinese Ginger Jar Famille Verte Warriors Marked with 2 Blue Rings Circa: 1900 to 1970 Measures: 8" high with cover by about 6.5" at widest diameter This porcelain ginger jar has a Crackle finish with a raised Warrior pattern done mostly in green(Famille Verte) This jar has a crackle finish and a upper and lower brown band. The crackle glaze stops after the top brown band. The porcelain cover also has a brown band. Unlike other ginger jars this one has only two blue rings on the bottom for a mark. The lack of a regular mark on the bottom was common for lower end kilns that could not afford a calligrapher. I believe this jar is a lower quality jar from the Chenghua Nian Zhi era as can be seen from the art work and lack of a regular mark. The condition of this jar is excellent.
