It measures 7.75 inches(19.7 cm) tall on a 4.5 inch(11.43 cm) by 3.25 inch(8.25 cm) base pedestal. It weighs 1.85 pounds(84 Kg) by itself. Without any packing materials. Up for sale is this beautifully and deeply carved antique Chinese bamboo brush pot with exceptional details. There are two scenes carved; the top. Of men in a bamboo forest working together. The bottom shows a gorgeous river scene with trees in the surround and a man on a boat. The sides are decorated in elegant extensions of the trees and the bamboo forest up top shows the masterful skills of the scholar and artist, with delicate pierced vertical bamboo to show depth and bring the carving to life. Just wonderful! It measures 12.5" inches tall and 4.25" inches in diameter. There are obvious signs of wear due to age and all look to be natural stress cracks including the large one in the back of the piece which extends down with some fracturing on the bottom. This is a Chinese hardstone carving of Shou Lao seated and holding his staff in his right hand and a peach in his left. Inside the peach a small crane leans out. Shou Lao has bulging eyes and an open mouth with traces of red paint to his lips. The carving of the figure is stunning with tremendous detail and with lotus flower decoration to his robe. The hardstone is variegated colours of brown. Green and black. The figure sits on a pierced hardstone stand which has a hollowed out top which may be used for burning incense the smoke from which would flow out through the the Shou Lao's mouth, ears and through the opening in the peach. I believe this beautifully carved dark wood sculpture is either early 20th or late 19th century. And at some point has has the lamp parts added. These parts are held in place by means of small screws and they could be removed, leaving only the sculpture with little evidence of it once having been made into a lamp. The eyes of the man and the large bird at his feet are either of porcelain or glass, very tiny but clearly shiny white with black pupils. There is one break or separation at the raised front foot of the figure which was once joined to the vertical cane which is next to it. This separation has likely occurred over decades due to the drying of the wood. On his back is a large leaf representing a lotus plant, and this suggests his hat. In his right hand he holds what appears to be a small bird, and the larger bird on the ground is ... morepecking at something hanging from his leg. He has a cane, a friendly attitude and is beautifully carved all around. Again, the lamp elements including the vertical tubing holding the electric cord are attached with screws and could be removed, leaving very little evidence of it having served as a lamp.
