Wonderful antique Japanese Export silver ice bucket with amazing brightly colored enamel grape vine; that surrounds all around the bucket. The workmanship is excellent and the bucket is top quality. The leaves and grapes are very well detailed and truly a work of art. Please preview the pictures. The age of the ice bucket is late 19 th Century circa 1880– 1920 and for its age it is in mint condition. There are no breaks. Cracks, missing piece or any other type of damage only natural age tarnish on the silver. The enamel is also in mint condition and the silver is hallmarked underneath the bucket with Asian characters alongside another hallmark. It is decorated with a sepia painted medallion depicting an American view on either side of the cover. As well as on the bottom of the interior. It also has a band of colorful enamel painted flowers on a black background along the rim of the cover and around the rim of the interior. It dates from the late 18th Century and measures approximately 4 + 5/8 inches tall to the top of the finial by 11 + ¼ inches by 9 + ¼ inches. Made of cow bone. Comprising thirty-two circular counters and two dice shakers, the counters are each finely carved in low relief with figures beneath pine trees, and the dice shakers with figures, pine trees and buildings. Half of the set is stained plum red and the opposing set is its natural colour. The material is natural cow bone, and there are small flecks to the inside of the dice shakers. MATCHING 18TH CENTURY CHINESE EXPORT ARMORIAL CUP AND SAUCER/BOWL PROVENANCE
From an estate…OLD CHINESE EXPORT 1780-1820 but in wonderful condition…ARMORIAL CUP AND SAUCER. CUP is 4 1/4" diameter and 2 1/4" tall. Saucer bowl is 5 5/8" in diameter. The saucer matches the cup although it is slightly darker. There are no major cracks( a few very fine hairlines on cup) or chips(one bite under rim on bottom saucer) and much of gold remains and still shiny…very good condition for age. The cup and saucer were handed down through family of Grace Margaret Knight wife of Roger Ward Babson. An old handwritten note found among cups and saucers" brought from China on ship with Captain Lew" PROVENANCE. These pieces were among a collection of fine items(many dating back to the 1800s and as far back as the late 1700s) passed down from the estate of Roger Ward Babson(1875-1967) to his family. The center of the dish has a circular area that is intricately carved with small figures including a man in a boat. Pavilions, bridges, willow and pine trees, etc. Golden honey in color with areas of darker color on the front. The backside is only the darker coconut shell color. Please examine the photos for more details. There is a central shield shaped cartouche that has never been monogramed. Measurements: Approximately 4 1/2 inches in diameter x 3/4 inch in height. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Overall the condition is good for its age. There is a crack resulting from shrinkage just on the outside of the centrally carved image.
