Chinese Antique Table Screen Panel - Mother of Pearl Inlay - Fine - 19th Century
This is the central panel from a fine 19th century Chinese table screen. It no longer has the frame. It is finely inlaid with mother of pearl decorated with bats etc flying around a tree on a dark hardwood back. like rosewood or similar. There is a fair bit of the mother of pearl inlaid missing so it is sold as seen with no returns. Most the bits missing are on the tree section. Hello. I am offering this 19Th century carved chinese sign or plaque. The piece is all wood with iron rods with hooks for hanging, 3 on one side and to on the other. The piece is carved with one character on each side, one I am total reads"Pine" the other"Water" The piece was meant to be seen from both sides and to hang possibly a Trade sign? ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY CHINESE CERAMIC GAMBLING TOKEN #5
Up for auction is a 19th century ceramic gambling token from Bangkok. Thailand. Gambling tokens become common currency from the early 19th century until 1870. The Chinese gambling houses in the Thai capital, Bangkok, produced ceramic tokens for use as counters. During the same period there was a shortage of silver metal for coins, and cowrie shells(a traditional form of money) were losing their value as currency. As a result the ceramic gambling tokens began to be used as everyday small change within the city. The onus of redeeming the tokens rested with gambling houses, who tried to pre-empt forgeries by frequently changing the design of the tokens. This octagonal token is approximately 21mm in diameter. A Very Fine Quality Chinese Rosewood Stand. Made of the finest quality hardwood with very fine workmanship. Very unusual shape. I do not know the original use of this object. I think it is a display stand. But do not know for what kind of object. It must have been an important and precious object. Because the wood alone was expensive. Size: 34 x 9 x 9.5 cm. The flat wood part is 2,7 cm thick, the feets 1 cm high are carved from one piece. The round part is 6 cm high and 8 cm diameter. Weight 990 gram. Dating: late 19th/ early 20th century. Very good condition. Except a hairline crack on sides and top of the round part. Shipping in Europe is $ 21 for registered priority airmail. Please note that the following photo was modified to try and remove the mirror reflection. The mirror glass is antique and has age lines. The border around mirror is excellent. I will replace with clear original photo as soon as possible. For sale is a beautiful hand carved antique Chinese rosewood frame with old mirror. I believe the frame to be late 19th century. It has peg construction and there are two Chinese characters carved into the side of the frame. I believe these to be the maker’s name but am not sure. The overall size of the frame is about 54 ½ inches by 35 inches. It is not likely that this frame was originally designed to hold a mirror. It is much too impressive and would likely have held a painted panel or screen of some type. The back of the frame has small slots carved out around the inside edge to accommodate wooden ... moreinserts. Of which I have three. The size of the mirror section is 40 ½ by 22 ½ inches. The mirror that is currently in the frame is old with very heavily layered silvering. The carving on this frame is truly beautiful. The outer most section of the frame has eight unique carvings separated by floral designs on the sides and geometric patterns at the corners. The overall frame is in excellent condition with only very small wood loss. The wood is very hard and heavy and is a very high quality. I am not sure if the teal highlights in the frame were done by the maker or if it was done after. There is no trace of teal highlighting at the back. Located in Irvine. CA. Pick up is free. The frame is large and very heavy. ANTIQUE CHINESE / JAPANESE ? BRONZE GONG, 19TH CENTURY
This is another item in the collection of oriental items that were recently discovered from a good estate in Cornwall. This is an antique bronze gong which I think is Chinese and probably dates from the 19th century. I'm not entirely sure so I've listed it in the Japanese section as well. If I tap the base it's hollow so not solid bronze in the base. I think it is bronze though and probably just a thin bronze instead of spelter or other metal. The base is heavy though and the total weight of the item is 1556 grams(and thats not including the weight of the hammer) It's quite dusty just like many of the other items from this estate including the large bronze signed vase I have listed. The gong/bell has lovely raised decoration of dragons and flowers etc and has a good ring to it. It has one dent. D06 - ANTIQUE CHINESE CARVED BONE FAN MOUNT STICKS SKELETON - 19th CENTURY
Original antique Chinese hand-carved and pierced ox bone(faux ivory) fan skeleton which would have had feathers attached to it. All sixteen inner sticks are present plus two guardsticks. All in good condition with a little glue residue especially on the guardsticks. Some of the inner sticks are a little frayed at the very tips. But this will be well-hidden by the feathers. One guardstick has a small crack in it- this is highlighted in one of the pictures. It feels quite strong but would benefit from being reinforced with glue. A teapot, a planter pot, a porcelain cane holder, and several vases. Measures 2 5/8" tall, and 5 1/4" wide. The piece is in great condition as shown in the photos, the back of the porcelain has black lacquer paint and a form of early concrete around the edges which does come off if you soak it and scrub it.
