I'm downsizing right now and will be offering some eclectic antique pieces I must part with now. This is a vibrant red drum which came out of an old barn in Maine. I've had it several years now. It shows expected signs of wear and use. The skins are tight and it's in working condition. I believe there is a cymbal of some type inside because it will make a separate chiming sound when the drum is moved. I'm not an expert on these. But believe they were used in ceremonies in the early 1900's. It's a great collector or decorator piece. Please view the pictures. It's not perfect the outside paint has mars and scuffs as would be expected from age. There are two brass hangers/ fasteners missing and two intact. I think these were carried or hung on a wooden stand. Very unique and interesting piece! Measures a large 13-3/4 inches across the top. 10-3/4 inches high and 51 inches around the widest part of the middle. It weighs approx 9 lbs without any shipping materials. Late 18th Early 19th Cent Chinese Export Porcelain Cups and Bowl Hand Decorated
Chinese Export Tea Pieces Offered is a set of Chinese Export porcelain items hand decorated with blue trim and orange floral details and green leaves. The pieces include a small bowl that measures 4 1/4" across and 1" tall. There are two extremely small chips and some crazing underneath. Other marks are clearly from production. The second item id a very small footed cup that perfectly matches the bowl. Very common in the 1800's tea cups were made without handles and the tea was drank from a shallow bowl or saucer. This particular cup is 1 1/2" tall and 2 1/2" across the top. There is a single chip to the mouth of the small cup as well as some crazing and as shown there is a bit of porcelain remaining on the inside from production. The final piece is a but larger and may have been used for sugar. It also has a couple ... moreof blemishes and a hairline crack as shown. It stands 2 1/2" tall and 2 7/8" across the mouth. A terrific antique set that shows the wonderful craftsmanship of the time period as well as the differences in life and culture. A fresh estate find. Made of shoushan stone. Finely carved in the form of a Buddhist lion, depicted in a crouching position with its haunches bent, its front foot rests on a brocaded ball, its curved body is incised fur running along its backbone with central releif plait terminating in a birfucated tail. The large head is incised with a spikey mane and a snarling expression with the mouth carved in openwork showing its teeth, with small eyes below bow-shaped eyebrows and large ears. The shoushan stone has a black tone, with red speckles visible on close inspection. The seal is apparently cut away from the base, which is now relatively thin, the condition is otherwise good, with old wear. ... morePlease see images. The jade and silver cover surmounted by a foliate cast finial encircled by coral pendants, the silver mounted neck centered by a jade band and set with bands of coral and turquoise cabochons continuing to the shoulder and stopping above a frieze of parcel gilt cartouches cast to show the bajixiang, the lower portion jade, mounted with handle cast as a sinuous dragon and spout issuing from a dragon mask and raised on a high foot encircled by three tiers of turquoise cabochons. But very similar in style and period. Each animal measures 11 inches long(nose to tail) by 6 inches tall and 4 inches in width. They date to the 18th-19th Century. They are in outstanding condition with the exception of a few extremely minor losses or repairs to the enamel. They are covered with archaistic sea plant designs throughout.
