Antique Indian God Statue Ganesh Elephant Rat Hindu South India 19th C. 1840
This is a beautiful 7 3/8" 18.73cm) tall x 2" 5.08cm) wide statue of the Hindu god Ganesh. The Remover of Obstacles. The statue was produced around 1840 in southern India. I believe the statue is bronze, but I am not positive. Note the ornate scenes circling the central Ganesh figure. Two rats can be seen approaching a piece of sweet bread. The rat in connection to Ganesh has been interpreted many different ways, and some see it as a vehicle for Ganesh on Earth. SUPERB Antique Hand Painted Floral KASHMIR INDIA Papier Mache Plate Tray Coaster
A lovely hand painted Indian Paper Mache Plate or Round Tray. The background is a soft deep black that looks almost ebony or brown from age. The florals are done in warm spicy reds. Orange, and tan- accented with gold- gold is also hand painted, not very lustrous anymore as time and patina has mellowed it. The condition is very good given that the item has age- not sure how to determine the age- similar pieces seen online are often thought to be 50-100 years old. There are no cracks or missing parts/chips. However, there are some lighter scuffs and a small impact on the edge in one place- thumb size- the impact is not easily detected. These relatively minor issues are commensurate with age and not per se damage. antique copper Hindu Sculpture Shiva Buddha head- from south india size 28cm weight 1kg 80 grm age arround 18 to 19 century Rupas. Or sacred statues, are used by Buddhists, Hindus, and Sikhs as the focal point of altars for meditation. No detail was left out from this piece. Every iconographic image related to Shiva was considered: the vertical third eye in the forehead, the Rudraksha beaded necklace(used to make mala bead necklaces) the cobra around his neck, Ganga and the River Ganges flowing from his hair, the crescent moon atop his head, and another cobra atop his head. What's uniquely interesting about this piece is that there is a crown of 9 cobras on Shiva's head, and a large cobra flared above his head. In yogic and tantric philosophy, the cobra symbolizes kundalini, the energy potential coiled like a snake in the lower half ... moreof the body. In meditation, the kundalini(energy) travels up the backbone and reaches the highest point of consciousness at the top of the head; thus, the flared cobra above Shiva's neck represents enlightenment. As you can see from the back of this sculpture, the cobra's tail extends down the back of Shiva's head, symbolizing the upward movement of that energy.

Both statues are in great condition.I see that one example shows a missing section on its base(pic. 9)These statues were hand-cast.
