Vintage made in Occupied Japan Doll in silk kimono. Measures 7" tall. Body or abdomen feels hard or firm. Arms& legs are some kind of paper with some kind of stuffing. Head. Hands and feet look like some kind of wood composite with a coating. Head has a very smooth eggshell type finish almost bisque looking. Inset dark or black eyes that look like glass. Beautiful silk kimono gown. No shoes. Bottom of left foot is stamped"Made in Occupied Japan" and there is a paper label on left leg"Made in Occupied Japan" The tip of the thumb on left hand is missing and there is a chip on side of right hand. Wow is she awesome! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Her! A fine example of an extremely rare Gofun Japanese Iki Ningyo(Living Doll)type Mannequin head. These are super hard to come across. Very pricey, and rarely are for sale! The internet does not provide great resources about Iki Ningyo-type dolls in general, but they are typically found in museum exhibits or in higher-end private collections. Of the 2-3 heads that I have managed to find for sale online, and that share any resemblance to what this one may be, are priced in excess of $6000.00. I have no idea as to the maker of this beauty/exactly when she was made. She is vintage though and LIFESIZE. She has a KA stamped on the bottom which would be the maker's mark. She measures approx. 14.5 in. tall completely by 11 in. wide(at the widest part of the head) The base measures approx. 5.8 in. long by ... more4.25 in wide. She has a couple of chips in the gofun at the bottom right front and left front of the base. She is made of gofun and wood and has human hair. And glass eyes with eyelashes. Rare Vintage Japanese Hakata Urasaki Geisha Doll Lady Statue Looking in Mirror
From an old local estate This is a vintage Hakata Urasaki Geisha doll made in Japan Original label still intact on bottom This beautiful clay/ceramic statue stands about 14 1/2" tall and is in excellent condition overall for its age It does have some paint wear. Mostly along the bottom of her dress in back, and some light age crazing lines on her face and neck, as shown in photo(the lines on her cheek and nose are just marks that can be cleaned off) also, I found a tiny chip near the hole where one of her hair pins is inserted in front(on the right as you are looking at her) and I suspect the base may have had a repair long ago(see photos) This rare and unusual Geisha is looking into her hand mirror and fixing her hair.
