Original cir. 1855 Japanese Woodcut Triptych by Kuniyoshi (Japan, 1797 - 1861)
Up for auction is a rare original 158 year old triptych of the great Minamoto leader Yoshitsune with his nineteen loyal retainers in traveling in his ship by Utagawa Kuniyoshi(Japan. 1797- 1861) The print depicts the warrior monk Benkei standing watch at the front of the ship keeping a lookout for enemies, his monk's mantle wrapped about his head. In rough seas waves are crashing against side of the ship while banners of the emperor and clans flutter in the wind. An excellent woodblock with great subject matter, high detail and outstanding colors. A very special piece for a Japanese Military collector or Samurai enthusiast. Condition is very good with some rubbing and wrinkling. Marginal tears, and other faults. There is a small tear in the top left as shown in the photos as well as one on the top right. It is an Inuit scrimshaw style carved soapstone"wedge" done in a triptych(3 panel) style of Arctic ocean mammals. It is in excellent condition. The underside is dated'88(making it a quarter of a century old) The wedge has nice curves(harder to carve) The edges of each“panel” or side has an attractive border“weaving” reminds me of Hudson Bay blankets) The green-black stone has nice colour variations throughout that add depth to the piece. Side 1 has a diving spotted/ring seal. Side 2 portrays a young walrus and Side 3 has a beluga whale(sea canary of the Arctic" Under the Canada“Igloo” label it is inscribed Inuktitut syllabics(A-TA-MI which is"Adamie" I don’t know the community ... moreor this particular artist. but it is a very nice and unique piece that displays well. Katilvik database lists 17 Inuit artists with the name Adamie. With four matching the Adamie signature. The walrus design reminds me a lot of a print in a mid 1970s Inuit art calendar I have(don't know the community though) And I wonder if it is the same artist. Rare Kunisada Toyokuni III :triptych ukiyo e print c 1845
A wonderful pre 1850's example(no cartouche) of renowned 19th c Japanese wood block artist. Kunisada Utigawa(Toyokuni 3rd) depicting in shades of indigo, a Kubuki play scene set against the night sky in full moonlight.It is a family heirloom, bought by a relative in the 1920's abroad and now in a very nice frame beautifully mounted. I will carefully package and mail with everything intact except glass due to breakage potential.Overall size of prints are 14x 29 inches, each one measures 9 3/4 x 14. In frame entire work measures 34 1/2 x 19" Censor seals on this Kunisada triptych are in pairs, the top is that of Kunigase Fusohiro, the bottom is the seal of Murata Heiemon. The signature with red Toshidama seal reads: Tokukuniga. There is a publishers seal below each of the three,publisher unknown to me. Overall condition is very ... moregood with some well executed repairs. Triptych is on original backing, flaws include: two worm holes,one on center print lower right, the other, right end print lower left both on the scroll depicted. Three small tears one is lower rigt corner of left side print, the other two tears are on the top left and top right corners of the center print in sky area. Right side print is free of any tears or worm holes. This is a fine example, rare in that it is an early pre-1850 era triptych, subtle yet energetic,beautifully composed and executed in every way. A wonderful addition for a collector or home owner, I welcome international buyers,all potential taxes or fees to be paid in own country.

Rare antique english enamel triptych of King Richard inspired in Wilton Diptych
triptico This is one of the first early copies(16 th– 17 th century) of the famous Wilton Diptych. Spanish flag instead of St. George cross. Makes me think a diplomatic gift. I have no record of antique copies of Wilton Diptych, so this could be a unique piece. Wood frame has woodworm marks, and deterioration of enamelled copper, certainly indicate an antique 16-17 th Century piece. Has a Latin inscription which reads clearly: RICHAR II” and“ SAICNTS” In the left inner panel the kneeling King Richard II is presented by the Saints John the Baptist and Edward the Confesor. Each holding their attribute. In the right hand panel the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child in her arms is surrounded by seven angels and field of delicately coloured flowers. The saints who present the kneeling Richard to the Virgin and Child are believed to have been venerated ... moreby the king. As each has his own chapel in Westminster Abbey. Each saint holds the symbolic attribute by which they are recognised in art. Edward the Confessor, to the left, holds the ring he gave to a pilgrim who transpired to be the disguised John the Evangelist. John the Baptist(right) holds his symbol, the Lamb of God. Chikashige Morikawa Triptych - 1883 - Japanese Woodblock Print
Chikashige Morikawa(1835-1900) was active around 1869-82. This triptych was produced in January. 1883. Size is 28" x 14" Artist's signature at top right. We know very little about Morikawa Chikashige. He was a pupil of the famous Meiji ukiyo-e master Kunichika Toyohara. Most of his work was about kabuki. From the left. Nakamura Fukusuke as Onami, Nakamura Shikan IV as Jinuemon, Onoe Kikugoro V as Gorobe, a swordsmith, Ichikawa Sadanji as Naito Tozaemon. I am not qualified to rate the quality of the item. I see excellent color and detail. The three sheets are backed and attached. Metallic pigments. This is a beautiful print suitable for a collector or for display. Antique. A very hard to find Japanese triptych 1860 showcasing a fantastic depiction of Sato Masakiyo's tiger hunts in Korea. He was one of the three senior commanders during the Seven-Year War with Korea. In this encounter, Masayiko boldly thrust his slender spear at the three-tailed tiger's chest as it snarls and bears its fangs as it looks with its bulging eyes. The tiger and commader show incredible detail and a great illustration from this famous tale. 16th century Indian triptych figure study of an allogorical life circle
Description: This triptych was once part of an Indian temple cart. A temple on wheels that traveled from village to village, telling stories of gods, spirituality and morality. This story depicts the cycle of life from conception, birth to death. It dates from the C15th/16th century and is in an earlier 10th to 12th century style. The carving is stunning, made even more attractive by the weathering, creating almost an abstract modernist quality. These were recently bought from a private collection of Indian art. Owned by a charming elderly gentleman who lived in India for much of his life, and collected these, among other treasures, on his days off. Toyohara Kunichika Japanese Woodblock Print Triptych Kabuki Actor 1864
This is a Japanese woodblock print Triptych by Toyohara Kunichika and was published in 1864. It depicts(from left to right) the actors Onoe Eizaburö. Ichimura Uzaemon, and Ichikawa Kodanji. It was published by Tsujiokaya Bunsuke. Each individual woodblock print is approximately 9 3/4 inches wide by 14 1/2 inches high. Good color, but there are some marks(mold? on the images. Please see photographs and make judgement on condition for yourself: I recently inherited a large collection of 19th century Japanese woodblock prints. I will be auctioning off prints from this collection over the next couple of months. There are also a number of 20th century prints that I will be offering. There are prints by Kunisada. Chikanobu Toyohara Japanese Woodblock Print Triptych Battle of Gojo Bridge 19thC
This Japanese woodblock print is by Chikanobu Toyohara and is circa 1880- 1890. This image is entitled"Battle of Gojo Bridge- Benkei and Ushiwaka" It depicts the kabuki actors Onoe Kikugoro(right) and Ichikawa Sadanji(left) The colors are very vibrant and there is mica on the blades of the swords. Each print of the Triptych is approximately 9 1/2 inches wide x 14 inches high. Good condition. Please see photographs.
