West India Islands Guadalupe Antigua 1817 Thomson antique hand color map West India Islands: Guadaloupe. Mariegalante& Co. and Antigua Issued 1817. Edinburgh by Thomson Fine original antique map. Printed in the early-19th century, on quality heavy paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. With original hand color. In near VG or better condition. Light minor age wear, overall very presentable and attractive[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting antique map which will look nice when displayed. Sheet measures c. 21 1/4" H x 28 1/4" W. Printed area measures c. 19 5/8" H x 23 1/4" W. 21994] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. ... morenote: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. Please look carefully and make your decision knowing this antique image is nice. But it is not in perfect"like new" condition. However, with whatever flaws it possesses, it remains entirely worthy of ownership and inclusion in any related collection. We feel it will prove very pleasing to its new owner. We stand behind everything we sell. Everything we offer is guaranteed to be an authentic original antique item as described. We do not sell modern reproductions. Please visit our. P rinted in MEXICO in Spanish Impreso en México. It is unusual in that it has a typical Virgin as the central scene surrounded by saints and scenes in cartouche form around her. I believe this is an oldie and dates to the earlier 1800's. Condition is as shown. It has holes punched into it from mounting, has some rust, more so at the base, some loss of paint and some breaks on the edges. Not bad for its age and use. It measures about 9" long by 6.5" wide. PLEASE VIEW ALL 12 PHOTOS FOR DETAILS! All items I sell are vintage and most are antique. None are perfect. Please expect general use and wear that all antique. Old or used items have ... moreand bid accordingly. I will point out any flaws that I think are pertinent but ask questions if you are unsure. Payment due within 3 days please or item will be relisted or offered to the underbidder. SHIPPING Please do not pay until I send an invoice with exact shipping fees! I will ship in the United States first class with insurance and required signature confirm. Both are estimated in shipping caluclator. If you wait for my invoice I will calculate an exact shipping charge with insurance. If you do not wait. The calculator could be overcharging and I do not refund overcharges on shipping because you did not wait. Please give me time to get your item packaged before I send the invoice, which is always the next day. Insurance can only be determined by the cost of the final sale at auctions end. Thank you! Also called Retablos, are one of the most intriguing forms of Mexican folk art. A retablo is a painting on a small sheet of tin(although there are some examples made on copper or wood) depicting a scene with a hand written description made to a saint or deity as an expression of gratitude for believers, when a miracle is received. The origin of the word Ex Voto is Latin. And it means"for solemn vow or promise" Faced with a particular problem, people would pray to a Saint or deity. When their prayers were"answered" the person would in return, offer an exvoto to that deity in the same way we give thank-you cards. Exvoto subjects range from common occurrences to truly dramatic events. Though some exvotos have been painted by the person receiving the miracle, most are made by retableros: commissioned artists who interpret people's stories and produce these tokens of appreciation to be placed/hung on church walls or shrines, reinforcing the owner's devotion and

1825 Mexican Map of San Diego. California and San Blas, Mexico(by Guadalupe Victoria) WE SELL ONLY ORIGINAL ANTIQUE MAPS- NOT REPRODUCTIONS Title: Plano del Puerto de San Diego de la California Septentrional. Plano del Puerto de San Blas en Las Costas del Estado de Xalisco. Description: This is an exceptionally rare and early map of San Diego Bay. California, and San Blas, Mexico, published in 1825 by order of Senor Don Guadalupe Victoria, the first president of the Republic of Mexico. Essentially two maps on a single sheet, this map highlights the starting point(San Blas) an ending point(San Diego) of the Spanish supply route to southern California. The upper map focuses on San Diego Bay, covering the region from Puerto Falso(Mission Harbor) to Punta de Arena. The fortress of San Diego(the Presidio) the Ranchera de Choyas, the Poblacion ... moreof San Diego(Mission of San Diego) and a ranch and Indian village in the southwestern part of the bay, among other sites, are all noted. The lower map, focusing on San Blas details the Bay from the Rio de Santiago to the village of San Blas, today a small fishing village near Puerto Vallarta. Both maps offer numerous depth soundings, references to shoals, reefs, and other undersea dangers, and notes on anchorage. The armorial crest of Mexico appears in the lower left quadrant. Though ostensibly similar to the map of the same regions published by Perouse in his 1797 atlas, this is in truth a different map with the apparent similarity stemming from the fact that both maps are drawn from the same source– the pioneering cartography of Juan Pantoja y Arrianga. Pantoja was the navigator and cartographer of the Frigate Princesa, which was commissioned, in 1782 to supply Spain’s few colonial outposts along the remote California coastline. The Princesa sailed from the harbor of San Blas to San Diego where, during a seven week break, Pantoja produced the first accurate survey of San Diego Bay. Pantoja’s work remained in manuscript form until 1802 when it was published to illustr

This lovely little watercolor painting was done by the mother of a friend. A very talented artist. I had never met her but she often visited Mexico and her paintings reflected some of the religious icons that were popular there. The reference for this painting was a carving of the Lady of Guadalupe. The frame, made in Italy, compliments the theme and the glass has preserved the painting. The size with the frame is 4-3/8" L x 3-3/8" W. The painting is 3-1/2" x 2-1/2"

Item: Our Lady of Guadalupe Ex-voto Author: Anonymous. Height: 29.5 cm/ 11.61 in. Length: 25 cm/ 9.84 in. Technique: Oil on steel sheet Region: Guanajuato Mexico. Material: Steel sheet. Date: 1965. Specifics: Dedicated by Ma. Natividad Arreguin on 1965. Very good condition. Description: The image shows a couple on their knees with candles on their hands praying to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Below a thank note says: We are infinitely thankful to the most holy Virgin of Guadalupe. For taken care on a surgery of my husband Savino Villagomez, surgically intervened due to hernia on July 10 th of 1964. La Estancia de San Jose del Carmen. January of 1965. The votive painting arrived in Mexico five hundred years ago. And It is in México that it has manifested its greatest vitality and endurance. The retablo or miracle, as it also called is not ... morejust another item in a secondhand store– it’s a truly living custom. Imported by the Spaniards to México, in its pictorial form, usually as an inmense oil on canvas, the votive painting was adopted in the Americas by populations that already practiced offerings or sacrifices to ask a gift from heaven or give thanks for favor received. Yet, of all the Spanish colonies in the western Hemisphere, it was in México, that the votive attained the greatest popularity, longevity and level of artistic development. In the form we know today. A small image on a sheet of metal, the votive painting dates to the nineteenth century. The thousands that have preserved for two centuries in museums, churches, shrines, and private collections are invaluable records for Mexican history- both of major events and daily life.
