This is a beautiful tiny icon in a triptych. The pictures are applied to the tiny frame. The doors open outward on hinges. It is carved on the front and back. I don't know what the wood is. But the whole effect is very pretty. You could slip this in your pocket for travel. It stands up for display. This would make a wonderful gift, or just for personal use, or for the icon collector. Jr. appears in script on the back. What makes this fascinating is the sand pail he's holding in the second photo- in dark capital letters you can see the mfg's name W.F. McLaugh* Chicago and images of at least 3 Spanish American War heroes, 2 of whom are Admiral Dewey and Admiral Schley, which dates this to the turn of the 19th century. Original Battle Triptych Scene. Artist Signed Yôshû Chikanobu This is an original 19th century triptych woodblock print by Yôshû Chikanobu. The print display's the artist's seal. It is professional matted and framed under glass. The frame measures 36" by 21. The viewable portion of the woodblock measure's 27-1/4" by 13-3/4. It is in excellent condition and a fine addition to any collection. Chikanobu is an important Meiji artist and his prints have become quite popular among collectors. Much more attention has been given this artist with the 2006 publication of Bruce Coats' definitive book on the artist. Chikanobu was a student of Toyohara Kunichika and his original name was Hashimoto. He took both the last name and the second part of chika of his master's first name. For sale is a framed 3 panel(triptych) Meiji woodblock by Toyohara Chikanobu(1838-1912) It is beautifully framed and has amazing colors. I bought this about ten years ago from the estate sale of a collector in Washington DC. Take a look at the photos and video to get a sense of this great work of art by a Japanese master(please note that there are a few glare spots in the photos) The scene. Triptych stained glass window circa 1890. Scene depicts Jesus with Martha and Mary. This rare and beautiful stained glass window was from Saint Peters Episcopal church of Pittsburgh. PA. This stained glass window was made by the famous Rudy Bros. Co. One publication has referred to J. Horace Rudy as"an artist to rival the likes of Tiffany and LaFarge. The whole window is completely double layered glass. There are three ventilators windows that went underneath the triptych set with scripture reference to the scene. The outlines of the skin of the five beauties who compose the composition, and the waves are printed with colored lines.
