A tranquil landscape lake scene with a pagoda temple in the distance and a figure walking across the bridge, is titled on the reverse in sepia ink upper left corner: Winter scene near Hakone. Exact date of creation unknown. Circa 1930s. The image size measures 13 1/8 x 9 5/8 inches and the full sheet size measures 13 1/2 x 10 inches. The watercolor comes unframed. S. Niimi was active prior to World War II. He was one of the prominent pre-war Japanese watercolor artists who painted in the western style. Carved Wood Madonna Virgin Mary Statue Travel Shrine Chapel Bullet 4" ANRI?
This auction is for a rare. Wood carving chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary in prayer. This chapel/shrine is in nice vintage condition. It is the perfect size for traveling. It is truly a rare find. The chapel is approximately 4" tall by 2" wide at the base. It has hinged doors and is bullet shaped. PLEASE NOTE that the chapel is in very good condition however, it appears that the varnish/lacquer on some areas of the case is worn. Mary is also removable from the shrine. At one time I had planned on restoring it but never got around to it. I didn't want to glue Mary back into the shrine in the event the buyer would like to refinish the case before placing her back inside. Mary has a hole drilled into her base and this fits on a tiny peg in the shrine. Other then the worn lacquer, there is no other damage to this shrine/chapel. ... morePlease see pictures for better details. Although this chapel is not exactly as the one pictured in the black-and-white photo, it is very similar to ANRI chapels of the 1950s. I cannot say for sure that this shrine is ANRI because there is no sticker/label on the bottom. There is a stamp on the bottom that is difficult to read. It may be earlier than that as it was found with a latest copyright date of 1917 Morals and Dogma book. From speaking to the previous owner. That is when they thought their grandfather was most active in the Shrine. Its condition is very good with no moth holes, but there are some spots on the exterior that show it was munched on a little, though nothing serious and no holes all the way through it. It still has its original badge holding the tassel and all the rhinestones appear to be in it with none missing that I can see. The case is a little worse for wear as far as the zipper, but displays well with the fez and it gives away the age pretty well judging by the green cloth inside. Definitely a super addition to any collection! Take advantage of our no reserve auction and don't let this one get away!

This is a very nice WWII& pre-WWII era Japanese Buddhist& Shinto badge lot. I think the top left one(with the dragons) might be from Manchuria. Winner gets all. There's some patina on a few. But overall they are in excellent condition. 3 come in their original cases too. The largest one measures 48 mm from top to bottom. Translations and background research will be up to the new owner.
