You are bidding on a rare. And highly collectible pocket shrine with the patron saint of France, Jeanne d’Arc or St Joan of Arc. These pocket shrines were carried as far back as the American Civil War, but were very popular in Europe during World War I. The top of the capsule slides to reveal an image of Jehanne inside. It is nearly 2.5 inches high, due to the cross on top of the capsule. The cross sits at an angle, and we cannot tell if this was intentional or if it has shifted over the years. With a little loving care, this shrine could be shined up, or it can be displayed with its original patina.
