Made by Roseville for the Imperial Council Meeting held in Rochester during July. 1911, this is a rare piece indeed. From their"Ceramic Design" line, it features Syrian symbols and the meeting information. A google search shows one that was auctioned a few years ago that had all of the writing intact. If you look closely and hold it just right you can see the letters. One side say's"Rochester July 1911" the other says"Imperial Council Meeting" Most of the"Cincinnati O. remains intact as do the symbols and the fez. General crazing has developed and there are some nicks to a few of the green"rivets" but there are no large chips, cracks or repairs. I t is bIt is believed by the Lobi that at one time they lived in a metaphorical Garden of Eden at one with the god and wanting for nothing. However. As their numbers began to increase men began to fight one another over women, and as a result the god turned his back on them. Not wanting them to be completely lost, the god sent forth thila to take care of the people. The thila are contacted through a diviner who delivers their messages, demands, and prohibitions to the people. The village thil is embodied in a village shrine but, since thila may leave the shrines, they are often uninhabited. Below the thila cosmologically, yet above men, are numerous bush spirits. The Lobi are able freely to distinguish between the bush spirits and the thila based on a series of factors, which at first seem quite confusing to the outsider. The case is in very good condition with only some very slight fading of the silk lining on the inside of the lid. The top securing lapel pin is fully functional. This white metal piece made by the Kami( cast of blacksmiths) Was part of a shrine inside the house. The figure is a so called Tantric Shiva. A shamanic God from the forest of which local people believe that it has healing powers. It has an inscription( Sanskrit or Devanagari) on the bottom and a beautiful old patina( front and back) which indicates that it's age is over 100 years old. It has 48 pages, b+w photos of various table settings, male and female officers. There are many advertisements for Hudson Valley businesses, primarily in Kingston. Up for bid are 10 commerative barware/ drinking glasses from the 100th Imperial Session of the Nobles Mystic Shrine. Each glass measures 4 inches high and has a label on the front that reads"100th Imperial Session Ancient Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine Imperial Council North America June 6. 1876" Each also has the signature of the Imperial Potentate Jacob A. Wingerter. Each of these glasses is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. My photo is showing 22 glasses. This auction is for 10 glasses.
