No Markings to show where it was made but the plastic case outside does show that this came from the priests of the sacred heart sacred heart monastery 414-425-3385. Not sure of the metal content of the shrine. The color is silver but on the rosary of Mother Teresa the metal looks to be black tone. So I am not sure if this is silver dipped over pot metal or another type of metal. This comes from a smoke free home and will be shipped out quickly. Ibibio, Anang, Ijo and Ogoni live often times intermixing and exchanging artistic traditions, secret society masquerades and cultural patterns. The Ibibio, Anang and the Ogoni people live in small groups somewhat isolated along the Atlantic coast where through time they developed their own culture and style of carving while drawing upon the sculptural forms of their neighbors. Carved figures among the Ogoni are primarily seen attached to the top of masquerade headdresses(Ka-elu) for the menâs Ekpo secret society and less often as free-standing figures. Though the specific use of figures among the Ibibio is difficult to define unless the context is known they probably served as altar figures representing ancestors or title-holders or served to validate the function of the members of the Ekon society that exercised social control over the village. Stunning Goyo Studio Reprint. Ca. 1916-1917 This marvelous design is by one of the greatest. And most famous, of all the wonderful Japanese ukiyo-e artists, Ando Hiroshige(Japanese, 1797-1858) In 1832. Hiroshige traveled the length of the Tōkaidō, the eastern coastal road linking the shogun’s capital Edo. Now present-day Tokyo. With the imperial capital in Kyoto. He was part of an official delegation transporting horses that were to be presented to the imperial court. The horses were a symbolic gift from the shogun and were presented annually in recognition of the Emperor's divine status. After he returned to Edo, he began his most celebrated series, The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō. Working from sketches he made during this trip. This image is from that series. Originally painted c. 1833-1834. This particular restrike was published ... moreby the famous Goyo Studio and was made c. 1916-1917. Goyo’s restrikes are considered to be among the finest ever made. His red rectangular seal is on the lower left outer margin. This image is a religious festival at the shrine of Atsuta at Station 42, Miya. The ceremony involves two teams of men dragging a festival carts, not shown in the image, past the entrance to the shrine. This shrine was one of the most important shrines in the country because it held one of the three divine symbols of the Japanese imperial throne. The city of Nagoya grew up around the shrine. The print would be a superb choice for any collector. It is truly a classic image from the golden age of ukiyo-e. It was made from recarved wooden blocks using exactly the same technique– and with the same excellent detail and rich color– as the original. Later edition prints like this make an exciting addition to your collection and are a wonderful way to decorate– at a small fraction of the staggering cost of a first edition print.
