A lovely Antique Japanese Lacquer Travelling Shrine Circa 18th Century. An unusually large Travelling Shrine the height being 17 1/4 inches The black lacquer shrine has hinged doors that open to a gilt interior. There stands a figure of Amida Buddha. The hands held in abhaya mudra. The Buddha stands on a multi layered plinth. Condition. This item has age related defects. A piece of the 2nd tier of the plinth is missing and the carving that the Buddha was standing on has been lost. The laquer base is also missing. There is slight damage to the Buddha's fingers. Please study the photographs carefully for condition This is an old shrine that has been used for centuries hence it's condition and faults. This appears to be Chinese. Although I can not verify that. I've uploaded several pictures for you to see every detail in hopes you know more about this artifact than I do. It is beautifully carved in a dark stain with many details. There are floral scenes with symbols on the outside. 6.5" tall.

This is one of two Altar(or Shrine)Crosses that I am selling. the other being a brass one. This is the larger of the two. Made of solid pewter with inlaid wood. The upright and cross member of the cross are inlaid with some kind of wood. It has a recepticle for holding Holy Water.intact but has some calcium deposit around its rim(shows its age) A bit of vinegar should remove it completely. The metal holding it in place has gone rusty(again showing its true age) Either side of the Holy Water font are two candle holders. On the back it is marked West Germany. Soul Train 1989 Program (Shrine Auditorium 4/12/89)
I attended the Soul Train Awards in 1989 and had the opportunity to meet many of the performers and was even invited to the after party. I sat down next to LL Cool J during intermission and asked for his autograph and handed him a napkin. He then picked up his program(The one posted) handed it to me and said that I could have it and signed it for me. I have several other autographs but cant remember who they belong to. I did take Bobby Browns name tag from his seat and placed it in the book as well. It is a bit worn from having it so many years but is very good condition.
