France. This canteen or flagon piece originated from the Holy Shrine at Notre Dame de Lourdes, and was used to carry holy water from the shrine. It is decorated with the famous Apparition Scene, with wonderful detail in golden gilt and turquoise blue. Handle on top to carry. The metal screw cap is impressed with scripted N.D. initials and decorated with a crown on top of the letters. Measures 8 ½” tall x 4 ½”x5 ¾” wide. The beige marble color plastic(tested negative for Bakelite) font base measures 5 ¾ inches tall and 3 inches wide. The clear glass font that holds the water measures 1 ¼ inches tall. 2 inches long and 1 inch wide. The glass is held in place by an unknown magnetic silver color metal. There is also a cross on the back of the Holy Bible charm) The main portion of the pin/brooch is a curved design with an upside down star on one part of it. And the Bible dangles below the star. I think this may be related to The Order of the Eastern Star(A Freemasonry-related fraternal organization. Open to both men and women. The order is based on teachings from the Bible. I say this because an upside down star, with the white colored point pointing downward, is their emblem, or logo. Although here, to me, it looks more clear than white- but the red, blue, green, and yellow points are all also in the correct position. I don't think this is something officially made by the organization. But rather a handmade piece, or a design someone came up with on their own. ... moreThis piece is silver in color. With clear and colored rhinestones. 4 of the 5 in the star design are colored, the 5th is clear/white. The others are clear(or very pale amber) nature. Roman Purple Holy Rood Guild Priest Chasuble and Stole
A perfect find for Lent! Up for auction is a Holy Rood Guild Roman purple priest chasuble and stole with decorative tapestry around the neck. The Holy Rood Guild in Spencer. MA, is known for the beauty, quality and longevity of their vestments. A comparable chasuble and stole set today would sell for close to $500 and most of their designs are over $1000. This particular chasuble and stole are older and are gently used, although it is clean and without stains or other markings. There is a zipper at the neck(see photo) which keeps the chasuble well fitted. Pease note that the stitching holding the tapestry in place is coming undone on the right shoulder and in a few other places(see photos) Thankfully, it has not caused damage to the vestment and could easily be re-sewn. In fact, I believe that the owner could decide to remove the tapestry ... moreentirely without causing damage to the vestment, if desired. Some of the hem on the back of the vestment is slightly undone, but again, could easily be fixed. The chasuble is unlined, while the stole is lined. Measurements are approximate: about 80" wide when spread out, about 48" from the neck to the bottom in the front and about 52" from the neck to the bottom in the back. The overall length of the stole, when laid flat out, including tassels, is about 57"

This wonderful early sharp squared corned stereoview is titled as follows- NO. 5 LA SAINT-CHAPELLE(VUES DE PARIS) or(HOLY CHAPEL) Paris France- Below additional information on the La Saint-Chapelle: The Sainte-Chapelle or'Holy Chapel' In the courtyard of the royal palace on the Île de la Cité(now part of a later administrative complex known as La Conciergerie) was built to house Louis IX's collection of relics of Christ, which included the Crown of Thorns, the Image of Edessa and some thirty other items. Louis purchased his Passion relics fromBaldwin II, the Latin emperor at Constantinople, for the sum of 135,000 livres, though this money was actually paid to the Venetians, to whom ... morethe relics had been pawned. The relics arrived in Paris in August 1239. Carried from Venice by two Dominican friars. For the final stage of their journey they were carried by the King himself, barefoot and dressed as a penitent, a scene depicted in the Relics of the Passion window on the south side of the chapel. The relics were stored in a large and elaborate silver chest, theGrand-Chasse, on which Louis spent a further 100,000 livres. The entire chapel, by contrast, cost 40,000 livres to build and glaze.
