Up for auction is a 1971 FILLMORE EAST program featuring Elvin Bishop The Allman Brothers(ALLMAN BROS) JOHNNY WINTER AND. This was a 3 day show. Which was unusual for the Fillmore East. Usually the shows were two nights, Friday and Saturday. This was Thursday Friday and Saturday March 11 12 13 1971. These were the nights the Allman Bros recorded LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST. Perhaps the best live concert album ever. This was THE best show that I had seen at the Fillmore East. There was a bomb scare after Elvin Bishop opened and the Fillmore was cleared out. The Allmans were not the headline band that night, Johnny Winter And was. Winter didn't want to hang out so he want on 2nd. Good thing for the Allmans, they got to play ALL NIGHT. In a rare 20" length, as manufactured as the model No.10 by George H. Bishop& Company in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The patent for the design of this saw was granted to Frederick Wuest on July 12. 1898 and was assigned to George H. Bishop& Co. The Iron Age magazine from April 1. 1920 reported that"Due to failing health, Frederick J. Wuest, aged ... more73, has resigned as general superintendent of the George H. Bishop Saw& Edge Tool Mfg. Co. Lawrenceburg, Ind. after being an employee of the company for more than 50 years. He was the inventor of many saws and tools made by the company as well as machinery used for their production. His inventions and management contributed greatly to the wealth of the company. The 1898 patent involves a double edged blade with fine& course or x-cut& rip teeth and a movable back that will serve as depth gauge. The folded steel back has a toothed insert that engages the teeth that are cut into the end of the blade and a locking lever on the handle that will hold the back at any desired location. In 1906. Wuest was granted another patent for improvements to his original design. It basically involves a toothed gear wheel on the end of the back that engages the teeth in the end of the saw blade. By rotating the wheel, the toe end of the blade is moved up or down. There are no examples of this design ever having been manufactured, but the 1906 patent date is more commonly seen stamped on the backs of Bishop No.10 saws. G Bishop 18th Century Gouge
Up for your consideration is a very old socketed gouge. Which I believe is probably from the 18th century. It is about 12-1/2" long overall, and is stamped with the name"G BISHOP" In the Early American Industries Association Directory of American Toolmakers, there is listed a G Bishop who made plane irons around 1790. Information is limited, and this may or may not be the same person who made this gouge. There is also a picture on page 73 of the book Tools: Working Wood in Eighteenth-Century America published by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Two of the gouges in the picture look extraordinarily similar to this Bishop gouge. The wooden handle fits very well and does not wobble. Please feel free to ask any questions prior to bidding.
