I am selling a very nice Art Deco sterling silver Cigarette/ Jewellery Box hallmarked for Birmingham 1921 by the renowned Mappin& Webb. The box measures 16.8 x 8.5 x 5.0 cm. In very good condition with NO splits. Repairs or initials. The sides have NO dents. There is a mark on the lid that can only be seen at certain angle. The hinge is strong. The lid closes tightly. The interior is cedar lined which is in good condition with NO stains or cracks. The base is weighted and has original paper covering which is a bit scruffy. The GROSS weight of the box is 565 g. Box closes with a slight tightness to prevent it opening when held upside down. The inside is lined with wood which has a roughish texture. Not sure if this is due to cracking with age or how it was made. It seems in need of a good clean but I have not tried as I do not know what to use and would not want to damage it. Maker: S.B&S Ltd for S. Blackensee& Son Ltd. This Beautiful Jewellery Box is of Serpentine shape and stands on 4 Paw feet. To the top of the Box there is an engraving of a Family Crest and written in Latin beneath: IN HOC SIGNO VINCES' Translated the phrase means: In This Sign You Will Conquer' Inside the Box the lid has a Gold Gilt wash. In very good order. The lid closes nice and firm with a very good hinge. I have re lined the base in a rich Chocolate Suede. Giving this Box an original feel and will last another 100 odd years. To the underside i have re placed a new piece of very soft Chocolate Leather. The inside of the Box was in rather ... morea poor state. The box is 4-5/8 inches/ 117 mm wide and 2-3/4 inches/ 70 mm deep. It stands 1-5/8 inches/ 41 mm high and weighs 416 grams. The box has clear hallmarks- lion passant. Superb large Peruvian South American jewellery casket box. Made circa 1900. This is a magnificent and very large silver casket box- it weighs a huge 2.382 grams- made circa 1900. The casket is rectangular in shape with straight sides and a domed lid. The box is finely chased on all sides with leaves and flowers. The top of the box has a vacant shield cartouche and the front of the box has a hinged and chased clasp and hook. The underside of the box is silver and it stands on four bird talon feet. This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver trinket/jewellery box has a plain circular form. The surface of the body and sides of the cover are plain and embellished with applied moulded borders. This antique box is fitted with a hallmarked push fit cover incorporating an impressive natural material panel ornamented with silver piqué work depicting floral bud swags above a suspended vase/bowl accommodating an arrangement of flowers. The cover is encircled with a fine and impressive applied festoon style border to the rim. The box is supported by three scrolling feet ... moreaccented with a trifurcating sockets. This natural material box is fitted with the original velvet lined interior; this lining is quite modest. But is original to the item. The weighted base of this impressive trinket box is fitted with leatherette to the underside. The base has its original pale green lining which is worn. Very hard to find this quality. Superbly embossed sterling silver Victorian jewellery or trinket box( possibly snuff? probably not! fully hallmarked in Birmingham in 1899 with the makers mark T.H which is Thomas Hayes, a very respected silversmith. The lid has exquisite quality with musicians, dancers, naked Gods? Colliseum? trees, flowers and so on. The sides are similarly embossed with the addition of winged cherubs and a Centaur. The inside of the box is heavily gilded that seems as though it has hardly been opened. The hinge is fine and the lid closes tightly without a gap. In superb condition with virtually no faults. Good size and weight. Length 6.25ins or 16cms, width 2.3/8ins or 6cms, height 1.5ins or 4cms. The weight is 180.1gms.
