With exquisite all over engine turned decoration and a delicate turquoise guilloche enamel covering the lid with black enamel rim, and turquoise enamel to the sides, dating to circa 1910. The interior of the lid contains a mirror. The interior base is hallmarked with a French silver mark- the Boar's Head used between 1838 to present. And a makers mark of LS either side of a star symbol into a diamond, for Lucien Schilt. The box opens easily and closes firmly. Antique German Solid Silver Gilt Relief Cherub Decorated Hanau Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box circa 1895 This Antique Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box measures approximately 2 inches or 52 mm across the length of its lid from side to side by 1 5/8 inches or 4 2 mm across the width of its lid from the hinge to the front and it stands 3/4 of an inch or 19 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from 800 standard solid silver in an oval shape that has been internally gilded or gold plated and it has a three section piano hinged lid that's overhanging the body slightly acting as a thumb or finger catch for ease of opening. The outer body has raised relief scrolled foliate band decorated sides and the lid has a delightful scene two cherubs of which one is holding a large dog in the foreground with a swagged curtain and rail in the ... morebackground and this is under a scrolled foliate and swagged floral decoration. The box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the underside of the body has been impressed with a German 800 standard solid silver mark that is along side what looks like the Hanau silversmith or makers marks of B. Neresheimer& Söhne whose mark is recorded as being used from 1893 and it has the German half moon and crown solid silver guarantee mark all as photographed below. I estimate that this Hanau trinket, pill or snuff box was made circa 1895. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The box has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the decoration is still visible, the hinge is working, the lid opens and closes with ease, the German silver marks are still legible although as this trinket, pill or snuff box is a used antique it does have some wear or play in the hinge and the makers mark is only partially legible, it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. A beautifully design good sized German 800 silver table snuff/ trinket box. It is hallmarked with the crescent moon and crown state symbols introduced in 1886. The 800 standard mark and the maker’s mark of U.Ernest Hestermann. I would date this piece to c1913 by the discrete inscription on the base. It has been beautifully made having an embossed leaf design around the sides with an embossed lid set with polished green-blue gem stones and mother of pearl. This lovely oval trinket box on four legs is just over 5 inches(13cm) by 3.75 inches(8.5cm) And 2.25 inches(6cm) high. Without its weighted base, it weighs 7oz(200g) The enamel decoration is of a star burst with a central oval decorated cartouche. All within a stylised foliate border. There is no damage or repair to the silver or enamel. Other than two short scratches- probably caused by a ring- please study the photos. No restoration. The lining was absolutely filthy so we have removed and cleaned it. It is all there, including the cording, apart from the stuffing. This is a super antique silver hinged lid box with hallmarks for the Schleissner company which was founded in Hanau in 1817 and was preeminent in the making of classical style silver. It has the typical swan hallmark on both the lid and on the bottom of the box plus a couple of other hallmarks that are indistinct but appear to be fruit. The work of the Schleissner company was always good quality and bore a certain style. This lovely box is decorated on the top with a repousse picture of a man who could be King George III or George IV which would date it to the early 19th century somewhere between 1800- 1830. Condition Condition is very good but there has been two small scratches to the top. One is near the hinge you can see on the photographs and the other was not picked up by the camera. Description This is a very sweet. Tactile and intriguing little box from South America. I would date it to the 1930's. Possibly even earlier. I was told that it was brought back from ECUADOR in the mid-20th Century by a Missionary. It is. Unquestionably, Andean and is tested, high grade SOLID Silver. It takes the form of a casket. 2.9 cms X 2.3 cms X 2.25 cms tall and weighing 19.5 grams. 0.688 ounces. It has embossed depictions of an Andean type peasant with a Llama and what appears to be. Possinly an INCA subject to the lid. It may originally have been intended to house snuff. Or any other keepsakes and would make a fine pill box. Other than patina. The silver has a vacant cartouche surrounded with decorative engravings and is hallmarked London 1920. The box measures 6.5 inches at widest. 3.5 inches deep and 2 inches tall, it is stamped'REAL EBONY' to the base. This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s. Antique Indian Solid Silver Raised Relief Decorated Circular Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box circa 1890 This Antique Box measures approximately 1 3/8 inches or 35 mm across the width or diameter of its lid from side to side and it stands just over 1 1/4 inches or 33 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from solid silver in a circular with a push fitting lid that overhangs the body slightly for ease of opening. The sides of the body along with the top of the lid have been hand embossed or raised relief and engrave decorated with stylized Indian scrolls, flowers and foliage and the box stands on a flat base the box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below and although I have been unable to find any silver marks as is very typical with antique Indian silver items the ... morebox has been tested and it is guaranteed as being made from solid silver. I estimate that it was made circa 1900- 1920. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The box has No Large Dents. No Holes, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I have found, the box stands straight, the decoration and definition is very crisp, the lid opens and closes fairly tightly with ease although as this is a used antique trinket. Pill or snuff box it does have one tiny shallow dent in the side rim of its lid along with the obvious signs that it was hand made and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique Indian trinket, pill or snuff box can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it has a delightful look about it considering that it's around 100 or so years old.
