Antique Victorian Dutch Solid Silver Gilt Snuff Pill Box Full Hallmarks for 1877
For your consideration A Very Pretty Antique Victorian Dutch Solid Silver-Gilt Engraved Ladies' Snuff Box/ Pill Box with Seed Pearls and Ruby/Garnet Coloured Cabochons- Fully Hallmarked and dated to 1877 Silver is not my strong point. But I am trying my best to describe this item. This lovely hinge-lidded gilt silver box was made in Holland. It is a engraved and has filigree work and what appear to be seed pearl and ruby/garnet-coloured cabochons applied to its lid. It bears at least 4. Possibly 5 hallmarks: the Lion Passant, Minerva(but I cannot make out the location letter on her helmet, as it was engraved after the mark had been impressed) the date letter"S" for 1877 and then two marks(one inside the lid and one in the bottom) that are most likely the maker's marks, but they are too rubbed for me to decipher them. The ... moreinside of the lid also bears the following scratch marks: 028 26588 dato. The box weighs in at 32 grams. It measures ca. 2.25" 5.8 cm) in diameter and just over 0.75" 2 cm) high(without the filigree topping. The box is in very good condition with minor scratches and the odd very tiny ding. But the gilding has rubbed off the bottom(see photos) I did not dare polish the box, as I am not sure how to go about it and how it would effect the gilding- it could do with a polish though. Antique George IV Solid Silver Snuff Box. Beautiful and heavy box which is not in original condition but which is in a very good functional order. The box is clearly hallmarked for Edward Smith. Birmingham 1828. So it's a little shy of 200 years old. The main part of the box is in excellent order still with quite crisp engine turned decoration and heavy cast sides. The lid appears to be original to the box but isn't hallmarked which is unusual. The engine turned decoration to the lid is a little more polished and the blank. Rectangular cartouche appears to have been added. Nevertheless it's a fully functional and beautiful almost 200 year old solid silver snuff box made by one of the leading Birmingham box makers. The lid opens and closes properly and the 11 part hinge is superb. It's quite a good sized. Tactile and beautifully ... moreproportioned at 77mm x 43mm x 21mm. It's very heavy indeed at 97g or 3.4oz. A beautiful very good quality sterling silver pictorial snuff box. It is hallmarked with the German crescent moon and crown state symbols the 800 standard mark. I would date it to c1900-1910. It has been superbly made having beautiful flower decorated sides and a highly detailed embossed lid depicting a scene of a maiden playing a mandolin surrounded by trees and birds. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The hinge is strong. The lid closes tightly and the inside is clean and vibrantly gilded. CONDITION: The condition is great– hard to believe it is 115 years old. The gilt-lined interior is a bit faded. The lid still fits. The hinge is in excellent working order, and it opens and shuts easily. This is a charming. Antique 19th Century French Empire Solid Silver& Niello Enamel Snuff Box Here's a mid 19th century solid silver and Niello enamel snuff box featuring a scene of men and women dancing and drinking on the lid. The snuff box is french in origin and bears two stamped marks. One I believe the'Minerva head' silver mark used from 1838 and the other the makers mark. Both marks are fairly indistinguishable. The box measures 82 mm long. 45 mm wide and 18 mm deep. The box weighs 98 grammes. The box is in very good condition. The scene on the lid is fairly worn and there is some marks on the inner surfaces as pictured. There are no dents.

I had this looked at by an expert and here are his comments. ================================== Description. An oblong silver snuff box, possibly Canada, circa 1860. The lid with applied oval portrait medallion flanked by maple leaves. The sides embossed with leaf designs on matting,scroll thumb piece.And a gilt interior. This looks a very well made box and being unmarked but with the maple leaves to the lid could well be Canadian. the decorative panels to the sides also look as if they might be leaves. The portrait medallion is interesting and bears a passing resemblance to Albert Edward Prince of Wales who visited Canada in 1860. A very interesting piece that could prove more so if you can discover more about its history.it measures 3.5 cms High. Width 9.0 cm, Depth 5.0 cm. Fine Mid Victorian Hallmarked Solid Sterling Silver Table Snuff Box Made By Colen Hewer Cheshire Description- Splendid good gauge solid silver large rectangular table snuff box with hinged lid and a scroll thumb piece. The box has reeded sides and superb hand engraved decoration on the lid and base, the lid has a cartouche with a presentation inscription and the base a nice floral cartouche, the interior is silver-gilt(gold washed) The snuff box is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham assay. The Queens head, the lion passant indicating 925 grade solid sterling silver, the date letter"X" for the year 1872 and the marker's mark"C.C" which is Colen Hewer Cheshire. Condition- The snuff box is in good condition. There are no dents, dinks, splits and repairs, the engraving on the lid is clear but with a bit of ... morerubbing, the engraving on the base is crisp and clear, lid opens and closes with no problems which has a strong hinge which is nice and tight with no looseness, to note, the left front corner of the box has a bit of damage which is slightly distorted(See photo) there is no loss of the interior silver-gilt which still retains a nice shine. The marks are on the lid edge- Left. Pic.8- PHV Sterling Right. Pic.7- London Import Mark, 925, l(date letter) PHV. The gilded silver edges of the box have continuous FEATHER EDGE DECORATION. SUPERB The hinge is described as a"BLIND HINGE" Made flat. And completely invisible from the outside. Beautifully gilded on the inside. Appears to have been used as a cigarette case, as. Before I cleaned it out, there were a few small pieces of cigarette tobacco inside. This would date back to the `50s& `60s. Because of the size of the case. The cigarettes would have been small untipped ones. Such as Wills Woodbines or Player`s Weights- The enamel on the lid has some ... morescuff marks. These can be seen when the case is rocked in the light. The underside is similarly marked. But more so. At either end of the base, which have obviously been points of contact with a hard surface. ONLY SEEN ON CLOSE EXAMINATION. Measures: 78 x 53 x 13 millimetres. 3.1 x 2.1 x 0.6 inches. Weight: 113.3 grams/ 3.64 ounces.

Magnificent Ornate Antique Solid Silver Snuff Box -Gold Wash Interior -Unmarked
A truly magnificent 19C. antique solid silver snuff box with gold wash interior. This piece has no hallmarks whatsoever. It may be eastern European, perhaps Russian- I do not know provenance- but it is early, and easily one of the most stunning silver snuff box designs I have seen. That said. There is age related wear commensurate with its function and use and long well-loved existence. See the photos for details, there are various small dents and a bowing to the middle top, and right of center at it's base- which are best seen from the gold washed internal walls- as due to the ornate exterior, they are much harder to locate from the outside. It may be seen looking at it from the side, as you may be able to note in photo#3, as these areas are obscured by the design and strong ends/sides. absolutely feel free to request more photos. I ... moretook many. The box has a streamlined shape. Which is a pleasure to handle, and has a really nice, substantial weight. There is a beautiful design of flowers and berries and foliage covering the box. And the top displays what appears to be a chrysanthemum surrounded by a unique floral geometric design. Gold washed interior, worn appropriately over it's long life and use. Match strike appearance to each end/side to the left and right, with no notable wear or abuse sustained from that perspective function on the slatted striker pattern- though do note a few minor dents to the corners on the left, which should be visible from the photos. Antique Solid Silver Snuff/ Pill Box" It is fully English hallmarked on the inside lip for Birmingham 1930 and I cannot decipher a makers mark. The box is in fair condition there are a couple of dings and dents commensurate with its age and use. It is decorated with an engraved floral pattern on the lid with a vacant cartouche. The box measures 47mm x 32mm x 11mm and it is of a good guage of silver weighing a heavy 30.1 grams. A nice silver snuff box to add to your collection. Antique German Solid Silver Gilt Relief Cherub Decorated Hanau Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box circa 1895 This Antique Trinket. Pill or Snuff Box measures approximately 2 inches or 52 mm across the length of its lid from side to side by 1 5/8 inches or 4 2 mm across the width of its lid from the hinge to the front and it stands 3/4 of an inch or 19 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The box is made from 800 standard solid silver in an oval shape that has been internally gilded or gold plated and it has a three section piano hinged lid that's overhanging the body slightly acting as a thumb or finger catch for ease of opening. The outer body has raised relief scrolled foliate band decorated sides and the lid has a delightful scene two cherubs of which one is holding a large dog in the foreground with a swagged curtain and rail in the ... morebackground and this is under a scrolled foliate and swagged floral decoration. The box has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the underside of the body has been impressed with a German 800 standard solid silver mark that is along side what looks like the Hanau silversmith or makers marks of B. Neresheimer& Söhne whose mark is recorded as being used from 1893 and it has the German half moon and crown solid silver guarantee mark all as photographed below. I estimate that this Hanau trinket, pill or snuff box was made circa 1895. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The box has No Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, the box stands straight, the decoration is still visible, the hinge is working, the lid opens and closes with ease, the German silver marks are still legible although as this trinket, pill or snuff box is a used antique it does have some wear or play in the hinge and the makers mark is only partially legible, it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Exquisite Hand Engraved Hallmarked Solid Silver Dutch Peppermint Or Lodderein Box Description- Very nice Dutch hand engraved solid silver peppermint or Lodderein box with a hinged lid. The box is beautifully decorated with engraved bands of flowers and other varied patterns. The box has a full set Dutch hallmarks which are stamped in various places. They are the Minerva's head duty mark. The lion passant 2 for.833 standard silver(on the base) the date letter"P" for the year 1849(on the lid's outer rim) and two unknown marks one of which is possibly the makers mark(on the base) and another on the outer left rim. The box has curved sides and is heavily embossed with scroll foliate and floral patterns to the sides, the lid has been embossed in high relief with a naked female and winged cherubs being pulled by a horse and cart/chariot. A beautiful decent sized Dutch silver snuff box. It is hallmarked with the Minerva head and lion passant marks(minimum 833 standard) A makers mark possibly BWE, and the date code for 1920. It has been nicely designed having a picture top lid depicting what is thought to be a painting by David Teniers showing 18 th century backgammon players– see. It has Dutch silver marks. 3.4" diameter and 0.9" deep. It weighs 122.1g. Very good overall condition. The lid however does not stay closed. P lease see photos for detail. Thank you for looking. Fine and Rare Antique Persian Solid Silver Snuff Box. Late Qajar era c1890 Skillfully hand made. It features fine quality all over hand chased designs. In very good condition and very well made slab sided box. The lid is a superb, snug fit. There are traces of the original gilt interior. It's beautifully proportioned and tactile at 56mm x 42mm x 22.5mm. It's made from a very thick gauge of solid silver and weighs an impressive 62g. 2 antique solid silver boxes. The larger one is hallmarked for London 1927 and is 8 cms in diameter. It weighs 94 grams and was probably intended for use as a table snuff box or dressing table pot for trinkets. It has the initials RD on the lid and there are dings to the silver. The smaller one was made by Sampson Morden and was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1922. It has a faux tortoiseshell lid and is 5 cms in diameter. It weighs 36 grams and was probably used for rings or tablets. Antique Dutch Solid Silver Hinged Top Relief Decorated Tobacco or Snuff Box from Schoonhoven 1852 This Antique Dutch Tobacco or Snuff Box measures approximately 1 1/2 inches or 38 mm across its length of its lid from side to side by just under 1 1/4 inches or 31 mm across the depth of its lid from the hinge to the front and it stands 1 1/2 inches or 38 mm tall to the top of its lid. The box is made from solid silver in a rectangular shape with internally curved corners on its front and back and it has a three section piano hinge on the back of its lid. The outer body and sides of its lid has an embossed or raised relief and engrave decoration and the top of the lid has an oval shaped panel that has the raised relief words"LEKKER VAN REUK" within a raised relief bead decorated outer border, the box has a romantic love heart shape ... morecartouche on the front that has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram and the box has been impressed in several places with Dutch solid silver marks that include an unknown Dutch silversmith or makers along with the Dutch.833 standard solid silver Lion Rampant mark, it also has the Dutch assay office head that includes the letter M for the Schoonhoven assay office and it has the Dutch date letter S for 1852. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The box has No Large Dents. No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I have found, the box stands straight, the decoration is crisp, the hinge is working perfectly, the lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the Dutch silver marks are slightly worn in places but still legible although as the snuff box is a used antique it does have some small shallow dents around its body along with some extremely minor surface marks and wear from years of use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would enhance it greatly.
