Antique Covered Salt or Sauce Dishes, Rare China? Japan?
This is a pair of unusual covered tiny bowls; presumably either salt dishes or sauce dishes. Each is 1 1/2 inches wide and 3/4 inch tall. Each is entirely hand-painted. But without signatures. The condition of each bowl and lid is excellent. There are no chips, cracks, repairs or losses of paint. The gold accent around the lid has worn away a bit due to being handled in a normal fashion over the years. We believe they are from the early to mid-19th century, but cannot be certain if they are from China or Japan.

The footed cup has a twisted strap handle and a wonderful berry finial motif on lid. It has a gorgeous and pleasing motif and Chinese Scenic detail. It has a great glaze and the beauty of the deep blue color is a sight to behold. It has a very slight flake on the edge of the lid hardly noticeable and a small chip and small hairline on the inside rim of cup. All in All it does not detract from it's beauty. The piece is made of bamboo inside and at the top is a nice golden hat finial for a 7th rank mandarin. The finial is marked at the underside with a two character mark in chinese. Beautiful carved statue. The statue is a match holder and match strike that was said to be used in a Chinese opium den. The statue is approximately 8 1/2" tall and 5" wide at the base. The Chinese man is smoking opium The barrel on the left held matches. There are carved match strikes on both sides of the base. There are a few nicks that can be seen in the photos. Rare Antique Chinese navigation nautical compass instrument
Rare Antique Chinese navigation instrument. It may be Chinese Navy and I believe that it is pre-World War II. The first couple of characters are faded but I did have a friend translate what he could on the last three characters which are: mathematic. Instrument, vessel. The combined characters means: a kind of instrument for mathematical computation. The other clear image says“port and starboard” nautical) Wooden Box dimensions are 12 3/4" x 12 3/4" x 4" It has a metal handle on top for carrying. It has two hinges for closing and note doles. I am not sure of what the wood is and note that there are scuff marks and some minor scratches. On the inside of box there is a resting place so that the instrument seats well in box. The diameter of the compass like device is 11 3/8" showing 360 degrees and the material looks like ... moresome kind of white plastic. There are some minor scuff marks and minor scratches on face but overall I would say in fine condition. Note there are two pieces as the 360 Degree Outer piece can rotate and it also shows N, NE, E, SE, SW, W, NW. The second piece has 0-180 in Red on one side and 0-180 in blue on other side. The metal calculation parts are attached to second part and are intricate. I think the characters on the second piece are port and starboard. A rare one of a kind Chinese nautical antique for the discerning collector. For your consideration is a very old piece of flow blue porcelain from Southease Asia. This bowl/ planter was a wonderful piece I bought 2 years ago at a very wealthy estate sale. I was drawn to the stunning cobalt blue color of the piece. And the wonderful dragons. I believe this to be Japanese. But I am not an expert in Asian porcelain. This has brown spots on the inside, and a few on the rim. One spot on the inside is indented. I have studied porcelain in general. And this piece looks to be more primitive, and certainly not one of those fakes on the markets these days. I do know the auctioneer wanted this piece himself. It measures 5 7/8" in diameter. And 4 3/4" high. The bottom has concentric circles. And the rim on the bottom is rough, with a few flea bites. It is not cracked or chipped otherwise. The Inkwell is perfect, but the cover has a rim chip and the inkwell liner has a broken rim. Luckily the piece chip was found on the inside and it fits nicely. Rare Set of 4 Antique Brass Silk Irons w/Dragons and Cinnabar Lacquer Handles
Collectors will be well aware. This is a rare excellent antique set of 4 Chinese silk irons from the late Qing Dynasty early Republic Period/ late 19th- early 20th century. The Chinese would place small hot embers into these antique brass irons/pan and draw the warmed pan over silk to smooth out wrinkles as well as for bed warming. Specifically on these silk irons. You see the brass'ember' bowls with the 2 dragons contesting a pearl in the center. You see the cinnabar lacquer handles with the carved floral design. As well, note the'China' mark on the bottoms of the bowls. Dimensions: 8-3/4” overall length. 4-1/2" x 4-1/4" bowl, 3” cinnabar handle(w/2” metal extension from bowl. Antique rare Chinese intricately carved clothes Robe rack
This auction is for an antique chinese clothes rack that is intricately carved not just on one side but on both sides. Each side is carved in exquisite detail and in different patterns. The dragons on the toprails have tiny carved"pearls" that actually roll around inside their mouths. It is impossible to show all of the details on this piece and to convey in the photos how impressive it is in person. You may have seen examples of these and so have I. But not like this. This is a soft-wood not hardwood carved piece but it is quite old and the carving is of a master hand. I would guess that this dates to the late 19th century but I'm not certain. From our extraordinary collection of Chinese floor screens. This piece of art’s riveting display can in no way be extolled enough. The six panels of this screen display twelve large and magnificent individually inset sections of exquisitely-worked, fine cloisonne that resound in harmony across lovely bursts of sky blue colored backgrounds. One by symbolic one, we have pondered and discussed the resounding beauty of each- never being able to decide or agree upon which is more astonishing. One of us has fallen in love with the pomegranate in the blue pedestal bowl. The pomegranate with an exposed opening displays its delicious seeds. The shiny purple onion, with sprouts bursting through its top, sits gleaming to the left rear of the precious blue vase filled with flowers bursting with cultural meaning. One cloisonne design has, if you study ... moreit, at least four sets of eyes tucked in and around a vase, perhaps considering the fish standing on its tail before it. A pagoda boasts its presence and blossoms, figures, beautiful objects, and other examples of impeccable art range across these quite traditional cloisonne spectacles in regal and harmonious displays that are absolutely breathtaking. But enough waxing about the indescribably wonderful cloisonne. They are all enhanced by lacy decor of gold encrusted. Incised decoration on the upper portion of the screen sections. The lower portions each perform in lacy and lyrical style, but with even more extensive incised decoration and colors. The edges and very bottom areas are also incised, colored, and gilded in delicate framing. Rare Antique Chinese Travel Knife x2 & Chopstick Set Shark Skin Case TWO KNIVES!

The knives each measure just under 11” long and they are 1” wide at the butt of the handle. The wooden knife handles have a few little splits in the wood. But both handles are securely attached. The knives are in decent condition but have some tarnish and wear as shown. And there are a couple of tiny dings on the edges. They each fit snugly into their own slots. And must be put in the correct slots and direction in order to fit properly. Once in. All utensils are snug in their slots. The chopsticks measure 10 ¾” long. And are probably brass. One chopstick has a ding on the tip which is pictured. The chain connecting them seems to have an original section. But it was attached as shown. The case is made of bamboo. Wrapped ... morewith shark skin, with copper ends. Reinforcing/ decorative bands are around the top copper end with small rings for hanging from a belt. The shark skin seems to be mostly intact.
