Her family said she brought it over from France years ago as she had a great devotion to the Saint of Charity. The believe it was made in the late 1800's or early 1900's by his order the Vincentians. It is 6 inches tall from base to top of cross and 3 inches wide, in excellent condition for age, a truly rare piece of devotional art with a cloth worn by the Saint. The wax seal and threads are intact and to show the age of this relic a close-up picture of the wax seal shows some deterioration with age. Another very unique feature of this Vincentians relic is that a very small medal of Our Lady has been added to the seal and threads, the family told me the lady spoke to a Vincentian father who told her it was the custom of their order in the late 1800's to add a medal of Our Lady to all relics out of respect for Our Lady and to further insure the seal was not broken. It can be free standing as the pictures show or it has a metal loop so it could be hung on the wall.

We are very pleased to offer a remarkable and very beautiful relic card of St Therese of Lisieux. The relic is sewn onto the front of the card as shown. And sealed with the official paper seal of the Carmel of Lisieux. It is a second class relic of linen used by St Therese during her lifetime. This is NOT a touch relic, but a piece of her own personal linen. The very simple but extremely beautiful front of the card(which measures 4.5 by 2.5 inches has no text. Just a stunning image of a statue of St Therese(from an original carved by the Trappist craftsman Fr Marie-Bernard I think) There is very muted decoration around the picture and also around the relic which is embossed gold, as can be seen also on the scan of the back of the card. According to the legend, Veronica was a pious woman from Jerusalem who encountered Christ on His way to Calvary and, full of compassion, used her veil to clean His face from sweat and blood. When she took it back, His Most Holy Face appeared miraculously on the cloth! Next to the Turin Shroud, the"Veronica" is another image of Christ"not created by human hands" inspiring Christian iconography until today. Veronica's encounter became a regular station on the Way of the Cross, and even today, once a year, pilgrims receive a blessing with the most holy relic in St. Peter's on Passion Sunday. But I was told, translated, the title is HOLY FACE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. THE TRUE EFFIGIES. This is framed and has 2 wax seals. Frame has wear. The Holy Face of Jesus from the image of VERONICA'S VEIL. The Veil is kept in in ST.PETERS BASILICA in Rome. This measures roughly 14" x 22" with the frame. This early reliquary has multiple labels inside but I am not an epert so I can't read them. The glass has been broken on this early piece and three decorative bone pieces will need to be reglued into place. I found this as it is. And am passing it on as it is. There is a wax seal on the back that has never been broken. there is some damage to the frame as can be seen in the pictures. Please look closely at all images. I am selling this item at no reserve as shown. There are woven metallic pieces inlaid and beautiful accents in this shadowbox. It is not in perfect condition, but it is gorgeous. The outer frame measuements are 12 3/4" high and 11 1/4" wide.
