ANTIQUE CHINESE FOLK ART PEASANT CLOTH DOLL This charming. Handmade doll comes from the estate of an Air Force Captain stationed in China during WW ll. Measuring 10.5 inches tall. This little Chinese pheasant girl doll appears to be completely handmade and hand stitched. The doll is in good condition but does show signs of age. There's a stain to her left cheek and the fabric back of her tunic has deteriorated over the years and part of the fabric is missing. The doll's fabric"apron" also shows some soil. The maker used knots in the wood and his method or relief carving to create a neat visual and tactile 3-D effect. This dragon wraps around the cane vertically rushing toward the top. Angled. This is last cane I am selling and is the most elaborately carved Chinese cane I saw anywhere in China. I have never seen anything even remotely like it anywhere. It is very tall and has an integral. Uniquely offset top! Very Finely carved- a bearded old wise man handle, two dragons, two fu dogs and more as follows: superb dragon flying in clouds dominates the center of the staff. It wraps in many directions completely surrounding the cane 360 degrees and is entirely relief carved with very detailed head. Tail and scales; this carving measures 6" tall and 3" wide! Both the head/open mouth and tail face up to the top of the cane. two highly detailed. Integral fu dogs on the staff; a large one with ball and a small one standing alone. The large one measuring 2" across wraps 2/3 around the cane, which when measured from end to end where it meets the staff measures a full 4" The smaller dog is around 1-1/4" Both are pictured. At the very cool. Detailed staff offset under the bearded wise old man is carved another flying dragon in clouds and a cluster of fruit/leaves. ONE OF THE FINAL PAIR OF CANES/WALKING STICKS FROM AN OUTSTANDING collection of original. Rare and very fine antique Chinese canes and walking sticks. Each cane/walking stick was personally acquired while living IN CHINA(most collected in Shanghai Region) In 1996 and 1997. All pieces were either acquired in various Chinese antique stores or from vendors in weekend indoor and outdoor flea/ art markets. EVERY piece remains exactly as-collected on the ground in China in the mid-90s with original as found surfaces and finishes. NONE of the items in this PRIVATE collection have EVER been for sale or in the market in ANY venue since they were acquired. The collection has been viewed by curators/ appraisers at the Nelson Art Gallery in Kansas City. A RARE opportunity to acquire one of a kind early antique Chinese folk art illustrating prominent ... morethemes of cultural legend and symbolism. This is one of the last two canes I am selling and is one of my very best and favorites. It is tall. Large, wide, heavy, and, in a word, SPECTACULAR! Finely carved- a bearded old wise man with a staff riding what appears to be a doe. This one makes a BIG statement. It is 50" tall! The handle is a full. 8" x 8-1/2" x 3" wide. Yes, 3" wide! It is really a staff vs. cane or walking stick. Compare its scale to the other sticks in the collection as seen in the last photo. I"think" it is rendered from a single piece of wood. Look at the height and scale next to my front door. The appraiser for the Nelson Art Museum in Kansas City theorized due to its"majesty" and design. Perhaps it was for royalty or some specialty or symbolic use? Hard to describe in pics- staff has a very deep. Very thick dark maroon finish. INCREDIBLE FORM!
