Chinese Antique Table Screen Panel - Mother of Pearl Inlay - Fine - 19th Century
This is the central panel from a fine 19th century Chinese table screen. It no longer has the frame. It is finely inlaid with mother of pearl decorated with bats etc flying around a tree on a dark hardwood back. like rosewood or similar. There is a fair bit of the mother of pearl inlaid missing so it is sold as seen with no returns. Most the bits missing are on the tree section. Maybe it can be repaired or the good parts used for somthing else. Please look at the photos. Size- 36 cm by 52 cm Please ask any questions. Please see my other items. This is a Large Black Lacquer Box with Red Lacquer Trays inside. The lid has a couple cranes standing on a branch with flowers. In the background are clouds around a sun or moon. All done in mother of pearl inlay work. The box shape is a octagon. The red trays inside have a octagon center tray with eight small trays around it. This set is in good used condition. Antique Qing Dynasty ZITAN Wood Mother of Pearl Carving Panel Boats Bridge OLD
You are viewing an antique zitan wood carving inlaid with mother-of-pearl depicting a moonlight scene with boat and fisherman. I would estimate it was made in the late Qing Dynasty. Or in the second half of the 19th Century. I know the wood is zitan because it is very dense, has the right quality and color for the wood and sank when I immersed it in the sink! Zitan wood is one of few woods which sinks when placed in water. The quality of pearl inlay is exceptional as can be seen in the photos. I believe the panel was original a lid from the top of a scholar's box or possibly a panel from a piece of furniture. The panel measures approximately 13 centimeters by 21 centimeters. While the wood is in pretty good condition with no breaks or major chips, some of the pearl has come away from the panel as it warped over time into a slightly convex ... moreshape. The Chinese panel is black lacquer with carved mother of pearl shell depicting a beautiful garden scene. Incredible detail throughout. The shell is all hand painted with amazing colors and the iridescence from the shell glows through. It seems almost lifelike. This piece is artist signed as shown in photo#8. It is mounted in a glass covered shadow box frame. It has two metal handle mounts at the top for hanging. There is one small strip of loose shell sitting at the very right side of frame edge(seen in photo) I have not been able to find any spot where it may have belonged. There are then people descending down a hill from the dwelling carrying baskets and passing flora and fauna, including a very cute ox with a bird resting atop it on one of the panels. The bottom depicts people in boats on the river. An amazing detailed scene on each panel. The quality of the carving/ inlay including the facial features of the figures are all very fine and appear to be very old. Panels are likely 19th century. Pictures do ... morenot capture the depth and presence of these panels your see in person. Panels each measure 39" tall and 6" wide by.5" wide. Panels each have wire hangers on the back. The inlay is about 98% complete. There are a few small areas of inlay missing: On panel with ox there are a few small areas of the outline frame missing. There is also a section of leaf, small part of a tool and small area of the bottom of boat missing. On other panel a couple tiny sections of branches are missing as well as a very small amount of the outline frame. These areas are all small and do not take away from the overall impact of the panels, it is also common due to the age of item. Gorgeous. A hand carved Chinese Mother of Pearl gaming chip or token. Georgian Period. ca. 1780-1820. Vine and moth border. Good thickness. Finely carved with a finely detailed scene of 3 monks one is fishing the other a shield or weapon of some sort in his hand the other is in a sort of martial arts defensive stance or is just running to the other two? Part of an old estate that I am liquidating is these four Vintage/Antique Chinese panels decorated with mother of pearl figures FU-LU-SHOU. It is in vintage mint condition with some paint loss.
