Here we have a very attractive and collectable fan made in China. Probably Canton, and dating from around 1890. It has an intricate, symmetrical design with pierced fretwork carving. The sticks are 10 1/2 inches long and when fully extended, the fan is 16 1/2 inches wide. This is a stunning example of an antique oriental cow bone fan and in very good condition with just one very short crack at the top edge of one of the sticks. A very pretty antique folding leaf piqué fan made from faux ivory or cow bone in original box. Size: 7 1/2" 19 cms) long x 14" 35.5 cms) wide when open. Nicely carved and pierced with a net folding leaf having applied gold and silver coloured spangles. The guard sticks have piqué detail and one has abalone shell decoration. Lovely Antique Victorian Chinese Cow Bone Brushes, Mirror & Letter Opener - VGC
For auction is this lovely group of antique Victorian Chinese cow bone dressing brushes. Mirror, glove stretchers and letter opener. All are in excellent undamaged condition. They are all a lovely creamy colour with nice graining. The mirror and letter opener have the same monogram and one of the rectangular brushes has a London maker stamp to one end. There are just a couple of very small cracks to the end of one brush and one to the front of the mirror and the mirror looks to have had its glass glued back in at some time. see pics) The gross weight for these is 545grams. The mirror measures 26cm long by 11cm wide by 1cm thick. Two brushes each measure 15cm long by 3cm wide. The bone section of these is 0.5cm thick. The boy servants are dressed in loose fitting jackets and trousers, their heads carved in high relief and incised with a topknot and their faces with cheerful expressions. The interior of the bowl is finely hollowed, and the entire piece is finely polished. The tigers eye has a reddish-brown tone with chatoyant greenish-gold bands which glisten and reflect light. No damage of any kind which is incredibly unusual! For auction is this fantastic and rare pair of antique Chinese cow bone hair brush or mirror blanks. These were made to be carved and exported to the West. In very good condition with a few minor marks and splits but no chips. Please look at all the pictures as they form an important part of the description. These have nice graining and patination.
