The day-to-day work of the convent took time away from her painting for twenty years but her reputation as an artist slowly emerged until serious commissions increased the amount of work she produced. Vintage Holy Card"Sancta Familia" by Mother Margaret Mary Nealis Mother Nealis was a religious of the Society of the Sacred Heart and prolific producer of Christian art. She was professed on July 22. 1903 and moved to Sault-au-Recollet, where she spent most of her religious life. The day-to-day work of the convent took time away from her painting for twenty years but her reputation as an artist slowly emerged until serious commissions increased the amount of work she produced. In 1929, after fire destroyed the main building of the Sault Convent, Mother Nealis was given a new modern studio where she was able to teach and paint. Failing eye sight and poor health hampered her work as she got older. She died in Montreal on December 17, 1957.
