2 VINTAGE FIRE DEPARTMENT DRESS HATS - FECHHEIMER BROS – GOLD/BLACK HEAD BANDS
2 vintage Fire Department dress hats as made by The Fechheimer Bros. Company of Cincinnati. Ohio. Both are dark blue(navy blue? in color with a band of bright blue. One has a gold-toned metal head band(or chin strap) and the other has a black band. I believe the hats are probably from the 1960’s. The gold-band has no size tag but I think it is a Size 7- measuring the inside head band gives a measurement of 8.25 inches from front to back and 6.25 inches from side to side. The black-band hat does say size 7. I am unable to say from what Fire Department they came from. But they were found in the Northern Lower Michigan area. The hats has been used in the past and so do show some wear. The visors have some scratching and scuff marks. But nothing deep or off-putting. The gold-band hat does show some wear on the band and the inside head-band is ... morebeginning to loosen as has the label. The black-band hat does have at least 1 small dark stain on the cloth. For sale is a wonderful pair of Navajo hand stamped 14K yellow gold and Morenci turquoise single-lug watch bands decorated with natural gold nuggets. Morenci Turquoise is mined in southeastern Arizona. It is high to light blue in color. Morenci has an unusual matrix of irregular black pyrite that. When polished, often looks like silver. One of the first American turquoises to come on the market. It is very difficult to obtain now because the mine is depleted. It is a collectible turquoise. Each band measures 1-1/2" long and 1/2" wide. The set weighs 12.4g. They fit a single-lug style watch case. And have a strap loop that is 5mm. It is white in color with gold line details. A lot of it showing wear. The pot itself measures 5" tall and about 9" in diameter. There are some natural imperfections inside, a few of which are ... morelightly discolored. There are no chips or cracks that I can see but there is some light crazing. The lid is almost as heavy as the pot. It has light crazing all over as well, with wear of the gold that once was on the edge and the handle. The handle has a nice design. There is a 1" narrow chip on the inside center part of the rim of the lid, and one spot about the same that has not chipped off but it has the cracks present on 3 sides, I would say. It still seems intact, and both are unseen when the lid is on. Those issues do not affect it in any way, as the rest of the lid is fine. The bottom does have a blue mark that I haven't been able to identify, as it is blurry. Overall this is a great estate auction piece with lots of character! It would be great displayed and used for storage in the bathroom for anything from makeup to washcloths to hiding your hairbrush and hair accessories. It would also be a great display in your guest room full of grandma's heirlooms, as that could have been where a chamber pot was kept in the days when used. For bids is a lot of vintage mens watch bands or parts thereof. Sold for scrap, crafts, parts for repair or restoration, etc. The total weight is 103 grams on my scale. You can see in the pictures that most have bottoms of stainless steel. The gold bearing material on the bands is on top and the ends mostly. All were checked with 10K gold test acid and tested positive. They could be gold filled, gold rolled plated, etc. The test only confirms the presence of at least 10K gold at the place tested. It may be that some are of higher Karat, but they were only checked with the 10K solution. Nice lot for the knowledgeable person. None are 100% gold obviously. And you should expect wear. A Wonderful Vintage Stanley Yellow and Gold Banded with Florals Cup and Saucer Set in Very Good Condition. This set is colored in a cream yellow rim with gold line bandsmaking an alternating ring look.The center of both cup and saucer is decorated with a very nice colorful floral arrangement.The handle is trimmed in gold and a gold line rings the white outside of the cup.There is very light wear on the bands from rubbing. Both pieces are marked on the back with the Stanley mark that was used between 1949-1953. Thank you.
