It has 3 hidden compartments and lots of pigeon holes and small drawers. It comes with the keys for the upper hutch. The fold down desk and the small door inside but not the drawers below. It has the original glass, which is wavy and has bubbles in it, in both panels on the left side but not on the right side. One pane is missing on the right side but would be easy enough to replace. Lots of character on this gorgeous old piece. It measures 81 inches high, 47 inches wide and is 23-1/2 inches deep at the bottom. It comes apart in two pieces so the bottom part is 41-1/2 inches high, 47 wide and 23-1/2 deep and the top part is 39-1/2 inches high, 47 inches wide and 12 inches deep. I live in Santa Cruz but delivery is possible anywhere in the San Francisco or Monterey bay areas(or nearby) if you cover my expenses or we negotiate it into the selling price. I think this chair was last used for sewing, perhaps in a mill somewhere. 15-1/2" wide x 19" deep x 32-1/4" high overall 18-1/2" high as it sits now. I was able to adjust it up. But when I sat on it it slipped back down. I think it was because I didn't tighten the set screw enough, but in case I'm wrong, I would add a collar or spacer to keep it at ... morethe height you want it. Decent condition. The padding doesn't have any rips or tears. There are some little tiny spots that look like white-out splatter or paint on the seat along with other cosmetic marks. There is a very small almost pinhole sized nic to the front of the seat that looks like one of those little spots. The metal parts have scratches and wear to the finish in several places as shown. All this is very normal for chairs of this age. I removed thread that was wrapped around the caster wheel hubs and oiled the chair and it now swivels and rolls around easily. There are five small drawers across the inside of the desk that are topped by 8 letter slots(4 on each side) an open center space with a door, and two hidden ... morevertical pillar drawers(photo#6) There is some damage around the knobs of the drawers and door, particular the center drawer and door, and something stuck inside one of the letter slots(see photo#7) The glass doors on the top of the desk are in very nice condition with the only visible flaw being some imperfection(retouching? in the finish at the center of the doors(photo#8) There are three shelves behind the glass doors. The top shelf has some paper stuck on three side of the back left corner(I do not know if it can be removed or what the finish looks like underneath it) and a circular scuff mark on the back in the center(photo#10) On the lower portion of both the right and left side there is some kind of residue or damage(photo#11) I do not know exactly what it is or if it can be repaired. Finally, the curved parts that stick out above the first large drawer have some damage from moving(photo#12) This desk was in the living room of my grandparent's house from the 1950's or 1960's until we recently sold the house and moved it up to New Jersey. Vintage Kling Furniture Secretary/Desk. 77" tall x 17" deep x 33" wide. In beautiful condition. Has normal signs of age; a few nicks and scratches and a very tiny chip in veneer at corner of the top drawer. Drawer pulls have been replaced. The outline of the original pulls can been seen in the finish. This is a collectible. Original brass pulls can be gotten to increase the collectible value. As is, insurance replacement appraisal is $1,200. Made in 1930-32 by Frewsburg Furniture Co in NY. Frewsburg was a wholly owned subsidiary of Kling and one of several furniture companies making furniture for Kling. This piece was one of the first made for Kling and still has the Frewsburg Furniture Company shipping label on back which further verifies the date the piece was made. The previous owner filled in the locks with wood putty I guess there were no secrets in their house. There is a deep scratch on the right leg see pictures and a faint scuff on the left front leg. 1920-1950 Original Owner Vintage Chippendale Mahogany Secretary This is an authentic antique. Early 20th century circa 1920-1950 Chippendale Federal-Style One-Piece Block Front Secretary. Made mainly of solid mahogany wood. And with minimal veneer that is normal to the design of the age. Many photos are posted so that you can see the quality of this beautiful desk and how well the secretary has been cared for, being from only one owner. This desk is in excellent used condition being from the original owner. There are no repairs. But does have minor wear from use. This beautiful desk also has the original patina and has never been refinished. Look through the photographs and you will see how special this desk is and how well the owner took care of their writing desk. The secretary desk is a sturdy. Strong desk, on the larger size being approx. ... more79" tall x 32" across x 16" deep at lower drawer block section. And 8 1/2" deep at upper block shelf section. The pull-down mid-section is 31" across x 13" front to back, plus an additional 8" to the compartment section; the space under the compartment continues all the way to the back of the block. Also. Hard to find, both of the original keys to the locks are with the desk. All of the original brass lock fittings and handles are also still with the desk. And are useable. Also. Hard to find, is the style of the inside letter slots, pigeon holes, drawers and cabinets with doors. There are 3 drawers across, 2 side cubbies with arch-design doors and all with original brass handles, 4 vertical open cubbies, an open 3-shelf center section, and the federal-style pillar hidden compartments, all in useable condition. The top section is a Federal-Style Crown with a"broken arch" pediment and a tall center finial. The fine work on the finial has never been broken or repaired in any manner. Matching Vintage Black Flip Top Secretary Desk & 1964 Nichols & Stone Chair
Last photo is 1964 original catalog ad as provided by Nichols& Stone. Chair by itself worth $100+ Desk: The top folds down to reveal an interior with 3 drawers with two sets of small knobs each. Above the drawers are 4 cubby shelves. One knob is missing. The exterior of the flip top has the lock face plate missing. The keys are missing and are of the hollow tip skeleton type of cabinet key. The flip top is also damaged around the locking mechanism and slightly by the upper right side corner. It's as if the keys were lost and the top was eventually forced open. Damage to the lock on the flip top is unknown. Outside of the damage sustained from prying the top open. There seems to be only normal wear for a piece that had been used. The desk itself appears to be made of maple and poplar. Maple for the main body and poplar for the interior ... moreshelves and drawers, the lower drawer, and the desk back. Unsure if legs were turned on poplar or maple but poplar is assumed. There is a slight wobble possibly due to wear on the bottom of the legs. There isn't any type of foot hardware that seem to be missing. The locking mechanisms on both the flip top and the lower drawer use the same type of key and both are inlaid between the front and false front of the top and drawer.
