I am listing these for my friend Pat. This listing is for four vintage or antique bone crochet hooks. None of them have the maker's mark but the one without a hook at the end has a number"3" on it. I think this one may be some type of plastic but I am not sure. One of the hooks comes apart in the middle and has thread in the center. Also the darkest colored one looks as though one end may have been chipped off but it's hard to tell. Please see photos. The vanity blade with steel and bone at 4 1/4" CORROSION ON STEEL AREA ON HANDLE AND BLADE, SLIGHT GAP ON ONE SIDE BETWEEN BONE PLATE AND STEEL FRAME. Pictured is a lovely black sewing box with a decorative gilt plaque on the top. C. 1850 to 1970's. The interior is lined with a ruched red silk and divided into compartments for the 8 tools. Included in this set are four bone tools. Each with a leaf motif carved onto them. These are a button hook, a seam knife, tambour crochet hook with hook and a needle case. There are also a bone handled folding quill knife. A steel bodkin, a pair of steel scissors and a star pattern thimble. ... moreThe tools are all original to the case and fit well into their allotted slots. please see photo's) The folding knife has the makers name of Baxter on it. Other than a patent number and size on the thimble this is the only marking I've found. There is an old sticker on the back of the case. But this is just numbers and not familiar to me in any case. All of the tools could use a good polishing and the handles need to be oiled, but the new owner will need to do that. The scissors cut well and the knives seem to be sharp. I haven't found any chips or cracks to the lovely bone handles nor the bone needle case. The case it's self measures approximately 17.5cm x 10cm x 2.5cm. and I believe was originally covered with a thin leather. The handles on the tools measure approx. 7cm while the dainty scissors measure approx. 7cm also. The thimble is marked as being a size 10. The silk could stand to be cleaned. But it is set well into it's case and there are no loose area's. almost a miracle in it's self! The wood frame has twisted a bit over the decades, and doesn't sit flush on the front corners. Condition: Very Fine! Case shows very minimal wear for its age. Interior fabric and tools are in very good condition. There is some rust on the scissors and the file. For your consideration is this English made antique sewing set. Circa 1900. The needlework tools are housed in a burgundy velvet covered and velvet lined wooden case with satin details. This sewing kit includes 4 knitting pins, 2 packets of H. Milward and Sons needles, a thimble, a stitch marker, 2 sizes of matching scissors, a bodkin, and a steel crochet hook. It also includes the following ox bone handles tools; a lace crochet hook, a knife, a pick with a bent tip, and a turned stiletto. Condition: Good. Velvet is in exceptionally good condition for its age. The tip of the bone handled pick is bent. There are a few small spots of rust on the scissors and thimble. The knitting pins are vintage. But not original to the set. Please examine photos. Measurements: 7.75 inches by 7 inches and 1.5 inch tall.

Even if you are not a seamstress(and I certainly am not) this character-ful box lends an air of Victorian charm to wherever it rests. There are losses to the apple green velvet. Lot of 10 Antique Turned / Carved Bone Sewing Tools AWLS CROCHET HOOKS etc
This lot consists of 6 turned and carve ox bone crochet hooks- some double tips. A glove or shoe button hook, 2 awls and another tool that I'm unsure of(bone tips on cord) The 2nd crochet hook from the bottom has a double steel shaft hook. Bone handle has a dark hairline crack but is still very stable and can still be used. Steel shafts are very thin towards the tips and are slightly bent. The 4th crochet hook has a flat blade type end- not sure what it would have been used for but an edge of the blade is chipped. Interesting and unusual piece. The longest awl or punch has a spot of soiling that should clean off easily enough. Steel on pieces with steel has expected darkening from age. No other damage or issues to note.
