Antique Copper Tibet Nepal China Lamasery Ceremonial Vessel Ewer Foo Dog Buddha
The man that I purchased this ewer or pitcher or vessel from said that it had belonged to his wealthy grandparents. Otherwise. He did not know anything about it. There is some black writing on the bottom that is partially obscured. What I can read reads, Antique Lamasery Ceremonial Vessel” I think that it is probably from Tibet but I also wonder if China or Nepal are possibilities. It certainly looks antique to me but I do not know exactly how old it is. I am not an expert when it comes to Tibetan items. The handle looks like a Foo Dog to me. I am not sure what kind of creature the spout represents. The metal appears to be be mostly copper. The yellowish emblems on the sides might be a copper alloy like brass. The figures on the emblems look to me like they are meditating so I think that they might be representative of the Buddha. The turquoise ... morecolored stones vary somewhat what in color surface texture. Some look like they are probably glass while others look like they might be real turquoise or some other blue stone. Measured to the top of the finial on the lid. It measures about 11 1/2 inches tall. It weighs about 3 pounds 0.5 ounces. The condition is much like you see it in my photos. Some of the tiny blue"stones" are missing. There is tarnish or patina. There are irregularities to be expected of hand made items. Otherwise it is in excellent antique condition with no damage. My photos should give you a good idea of its general condition. Some of my photos are taken with a flash. I think that the darker photos taken without a flash more accurately represent how the colors normally look. I guarantee this vessel to be as described and represented by my photos. ANTIQUE 19th century NEPAL TIBET JEWELLED GILT SILVERED COPPER LEOPARD FIGURINE
Description This antique circa early 19th century or possibly earlier Nepal Tibetan figurine of a leopard. It is finely hand worked in copper in a standing walking stance with snarling expression. Its body and head are applied with circular metal strip enclosures with knurled upper edges and each containing red and black glass cabochons. It has borders and sections of spiral wound metal strips, also with knurled edges and has applied tapered tail, ears, tongue and wonderful whiskers, with white and black glass inset eyes with tiny white glass cabochons to the teeth. This fabulous old piece is apparently unmarked. It is in good antique condition apart from 2 missing cabochons from the body and 2 from the teeth. There is a crease mark in one front leg just above the paw. A little bit of wear to the gilding/ silvering on the lower legs. Super Rare Antique Brass TIBETAN SEAL Tibet Nepal Temple Document Chop Stamp
This is a beautiful antique brass Tibetan Seal that I acquired from a reputable Tibetan antiquities dealer in Nepal who have known for years. It is hammered brass sheeting and do not know the inner core. But it feels too heavy to be wood unless the wood has an inner weight. The weight feels like it is hammered over stone, but that is conjecture. The actual seal at the bottom is an affixed plate of silver alloy with a Conch Shell motif. The Conch Shell is an ancient Tibetan symbol. The Conch Shell has been a symbol of strength since ancient Vedic times in India, Nepal and Tibet as it was blown prior to battle. Many images of deities depict them holding conch shells called Sankha or Shanka and they are still used in many rituals today. I imagine the seal would be used to stamp official temple documents. The ornate motif shows floral patterns ... morewith a bird on one side and and an animal I cannot identify on the opposite side and a leather thong runs through a hole just below the top handle. It is about 4.5 inches in height and I part with it reluctantly as I really like it and do not expect to find another one like it. Antique TIBETAN Brass KALI with Flaming Aura Statue Nepal India Hindu Tibet
This is a wonderful old. Small brass altar statue of the Hindu goddess Kali that I found in an antique shop in Kathmandu. It has a great patina and very elaborate artistry with its flaming aura which shows Tibetan art influences. NOTE: There is a small loop attached to Kalis left upper arm which may have once held a separately cast small piece, but I am not sure. Usually if something is held, there is a slot in the hand, so it may be to hold an incense stick. The statue is 3 and 7/8 inch in height. Kali is the Hindu Mother goddess and primarily symbolizes destruction. She destroys ignorance and helps maintain order in the world by blessing those who come closer to God. In her wrathful aspect. She protrudes her tongue and holds weapons against ignorance while she stands upon her consort Shiva, being one avatar of his wife or an incarnation ... moreof Parvati. She assumed this wrathful form in order to defeat a demon named Raktabija who had plagued the gods. Legend tells that she pierced Raktabija with a spear in battle and then extended her tongue to make sure not a single drop of his blood would hit the earth and spawn another demon. Drunk on his blood, she spread across the universe and slayed anyone evil in her path and thus was shattering the balance of the universe. To pacify her, the gods called upon her husband Shiva who threw himself under her feet and she calmed down and transformed into an incarnation that was more fair and beautiful in spirit and appearance, and named Gauri. In her wrathful aspect. She is scantily dressed and has a necklace of severed heads and sometime a dress of dismembered arms. As the Divine Mother, she is also known as Kalikamata or black earth mother and Kalaratri or black night. Her most famous temple is Kalighat in Calcutta and she is highly worshipped in Bengal. Genuine Antique Tibet Nepal Shamans Spirit Journey Bells Necklace
This is a genuine 19th century string of shamans bells owned. Well used, and handed down by a Himalayan shaman or'Jankri' There are sixteen bells in total, made of various grades of bronze and of several different types. They have been strung on a hand made'chain' the largest bell is also the oldest, of blackened bronze and mounted with a worn silver disc which was either a coin or bearing some kind of mandala. They would have been worn either around the neck or slung over the shoulder and under one arm. Used by the jankri shamans as they danced to fall into a trance from which they would'journey' into the spirit world to seek out the root of an illness or negotiate with the demons and spirits that were causing problems for their patients. The complete chain is over one hundred years old with at least one of the bells ... morebeing considerably older. It makes a wonderful lively and harmonious sound when shaken. Around 38 inches long. Could be from Tibet or Nepal, as the shamanic traditions are very close. This is a really lovely and genuine traditional piece, The Jankri of the Himalayas are of many different tribes and casts but they consider themselves to be of a far older brother and sisterhood than that. They are very consistent in that certain things are essential for any Jankri altar,and this precise type of bell necklace has also traditionally been used throughout the world of Himalayan shamanism. This is a very rare and fine antique brass Tibetan pipe or Chillum that I acquired in a Tibetan antiquities shop in Nepal. I am told by friend that it is held at an upward angle to be puffed. There is a small link upon which it was probably once attached to a string around the neck of the owner. It has a great patina and nice motif. Being 3 inches in length. You are considering a very large Himalayan sculpture. Most probably from either Tibet or Nepal, and dating to the first half of the 20th century. The piece measures 15" in height and is 9-1/2" inches wide. The figures are attached to the base and to the mandorla; stated differently, they were separately carved and then joined to the base and to the back. This is what I call near perfect. No stones missing. Early 1900's or earlier. Made in Tibet/Nepal. 2" tall. 3 1/2" from front to back. Coral and turquoise stones. Great tedious craftsmanship.
