This fine ale jug is truly magnificent and impressive. It has a baluster shaped form onto a circular. Chased decorated spreading foot. There is profuse fine chased decoration to the body of the jug. Depicting Bacchanalian scenes incorporating cherub-like figures, vines, goats, mystical fish, floral and foliate designs. There is a vacant shaped cartouche to one side of the jug bordered by impressive shell and scrolling acanthus leaf chased decoration and a crowned Neptune-like mask to the top. There is a larger. This stunning Victorian sterling silver tea caddy was made by the well known silversmith George Unite and is clearly hallmarked for Birmingham 1896. It is in very good condition. The pull off lid is made up of 4 panels. Has a crimped rim and fits tightly. The body is very unusual. There is an all round decoration of gadroon pillars culminating in a shaped top which has a crimped edge to match the lid. The caddy sits on a raised pedestal base the lower rim of which is also crimped. The tea caddy is made of a heavy gauge of silver. Feels very solid and has retained its original shape. Antique Sanborns Sterling Silver Shell Dish 11 ounces/300+ grams Mexican Mexico
From my uncle's estate. At this rate I should have it cleared out in a decade. My uncle spent a significant portion of his time in Mexico in the 1940s-1960s. Gamefishing, conducting archaeological digs and being a general bon vivant. He told us this dish was given to him in the late 1940s after a night of carousing by a Colonel in the Mexican Federal Police for"services rendered. He always said it with a chuckle but God knows what he did to earn it. According to the scale in my post office this dish weighs 11 ounces. Or a little over 300 grams. It is in excellent condition with scrolled feet and an engraved base and is a fine example of the Mexican silversmith's art. From the hallmark I'd estimate it was crafted in the late 1930s- early 1940s. It measures 7 inches long by 4.25 inches wide by 4 inches high at the scrolled ... morehandle. There is a light gilt wash inside and well struck hallmarks for 1905. The maker is Richard Richardson and it was made in Sheffield. Antique Silver Knife c1900 knife with sterling silver handle made in Vienna by Vincent Mayer. Measures approx 26cm long. Blade marked'Nicht Rostend' The blade is loose in the handle& has movement sideways& up& down. Handle is hallmarked with the Dianakopf or'Diana's Head' mark& makers mark on the reverse'VMS' for Vincenz Mayer's Sohne which were one of the most important makers in Vienna in the 19th/ 20th centuries. Foreign Sovereign and the most distinguished Viennese society circles were among the customers. The company supplied the courts of Serbia. Montenegro, Bulgaria, the Vatican, Persia, Ottoman Empire and many others. The handle has a monogram but I cannot decipher it- with a bit of research you may be able to find a link to an important family. Nice item for the collector! A fine antique George V English sterling silver flower epergne/ centrepiece; an addition to our silverware collection. Description. The pieces of this fine antique sterling silver epergne/ centrepiece have an octagonal panelled form with a flared rim. Each vase has a pierced decorated rim. The supporting frame has a plain octagonal swept base with three stepped. Scrolling arms. The arms are ornamented with cast leaf decoration. The larger. Hallmarked central vase push fits neatly into the octagonal collar of the supporting frame where it is held securely with the assistance of the small foot at the base of the vase. There is some tarnish inside the item, and around the folds and creases, as seen in the photos. There is a crease to the corner of one end as seen in the photos.
